Classy guy and had to be one of my favourite Canadians players. Lots of fond memories of him.

One of the true good ones. Playing with the Ducks last season, he looked over at my son and I and tapped the glass and smiled while we watched the warmup. My boy wears #11 because of him. My favourite hockey moment of all time was when he walked out into the arena area, bald from chemo and saluted the crowd. Had one of the toughest jobs in hockey, captain of a team with a crazy media. Didn't blame him one bit for going to Anaheim and escaping the spotlight for the end of his career.

Happy trails, Saku!

I'll never forget his first game back after his chemo treatment and the ovation he got at the Bell Centre. Classy guy, and a shame he never won a cup.

Solid player who went through a lot. Hope the best for him and his family in retirement.

Tough not to be a fan of the gritty, skilled Finn.

Wish him the best.

They gave him the third star in a game last season in Montreal and the fans gave him a really nice ovation, they did the same during a break in the game where they showed some past highlights of his. Good stuff.

It is hard not to like Saku. I enjoyed watching him play (and his brother.)

Its his call but man, he should have tried giving it another year, the Ducks are going to be awesome next season!

Adios Saku!

As a habs fan he should have left Montreal a lot earlier. One of my favorites players of all time.

No one should blame him. If memory serves me correctly, Koivu wanted to stay but Montreal didn't want him.

The Ducks didn't want to re-sign him. It was either retire or play one more year for another team.
