While still limited, Chromecast has been a bit of a game changer in my house. Between Google Play movies and music, Netflix, Pocketcast and Plex I'm amazed how often I've used it.

I like mine and use it quite a bit but it is still easier for my 5 year to grab the mouse and use the computer. He's getting better but you still need to leave an old phone laying around to use.

Will Chromecast work if your Smart TV does not have a wifi dongle (or whatever it's called)? For example, I have a Samsung Smart TV with which you had to buy wifi dongle separately. Never had the need for it as I used PS3, but Chromecast would make life easier.

Yup. The Chromecast does everything independent from your TV. The device itself is what's connected to the Internet so you get a lot of the same smart TV features but in a more universal product.

90 days of Google music all access with your Chromecast for its one year anniversary. America only so you need to use your VPN.

Anyone with issues with Nexus 5 displaying Netflix via Chromecast - works fine from my laptop and Youtube works fine from Nexus 5. Netflix gives time out sort of error (#16001 I think it is).

Does anyone else have overscan problems with their TV when casting the screen and playing back video?

So... cast of the phone page view is fine and fills up the whole TV. Cast of a video playback from an app like Mx player using screen cast puts a huge black border around everything. Maybe I should wait for proper VLC support

No, N5 with chromecast working fine here. Are you running any sort of VPNs?

Hola; maybe that's the culprit?

If you're watching US netflix, that could be the issue. It stopped working for me recently, and the only fix I've read is that you have to change the dns on your router for the chromecast.

Mine works, even when running hola, but only if I play titles available in Canada anyways.

Chromecasts DNS are hard coded so they won't work properly on VPNs. Depending on your router you can setup a static route and send the chrome casts to a dead IP. Once they can't go anywhere they will default to your routers. Works here.

Netflix only working sporadically still from laptop or android. A bit frustrating. Basically times out - often gets to 25% then nothing...Will try some of the troubleshooting tips suggested in the google forum.

Just got a Chromecast. Incredible cool device.
Any ideas why I get no sound casting from android device running XBMC through Avia (paid in app purchase) to chromecast? Video is no problem, but no audio.
The gf loves it CC a lot - queueing up youtube videos from phone and dancing around the house lol.... but I'm disappointed I have yet to get it to work with XBMC properly.
I don't need it to - I just want it to.
Thanks

No issues here, have it running on a tablet and a phone and audio casts with no issues. Whats the default audio set to in XBMC for playback? It can at times default to zero and using your volume keys will not turn it up.

Hmm.
Pull the xml file from directory and sound on Xbmc functions properly. Audio setup seem fine. Drop the xml file back in (that loads avia) and no sound casted.
Both android devices, running Kitkat while Xbmc is latest Gotham stable.

Sorry not much help here then. That setup works well for me. What about normal video or audio with avia casting, no xbmc, does that work?

Audio on video files from my NAS cast directly from Avia to Chromecast works perfectly.
Again... it's no big deal - I just don't understand what I have done wrong.
I should add my NAS sources to XBMC library and then cast from it. That would at least eliminate it being related to an XBMC source issue.

Link to XDA thread.

Link to youtube video for further instructions.

Maybe try to download the .xml file again? I had issues setting up my dad a few weeks back, thought it might be an issue with his low end tablet but there was issues with the playercorefactory.xml file we had downloaded.

I grabbed my original one from the thread above.

Cool. Once it is setup it works well. I stream most things this way and it works great, hangs every now and than but not big deal.
