Hmm. I guess.

Be interesting to see what the TV ratings will be from this one. Two unexpected players in the final won't help as much as a Fed/Djok, but the time of day has got to hurt as well. It will be over before people on the West coast even get home. I'd rather take my chances and go up against MNF.
Then it is the 2nd reason, players can't be in New York late on a Monday night when they got matches coming up on Friday somewhere else in the world. It's not a normal week where they wouldn't have to play til the next Monday or Tuesday.

Davis Cup scheduling is another stupid tennis thing.

Whatever the reason it needs to be fixed. Huge tourney and the main event is being played midday on a Monday? Silly.

French also has the early Sunday Start too.

Nishikori is out of gas, and it shows. Bit of a shame, but dude did beat the 1, 3 and 5 seeds to get here.

US Open will have a normal schedule next year with Monday start, no three days for the first round for men, women's SF/F going Thursday/Saturday and men's Friday/Sunday.

This could only happen when CBS was gone.

I could not believe it when Genie wore dark colours the whole week and especially the Monday she was eliminated with the match starting around 3:00 pm.

I learned my lesson on what to wear after the first day there.

Maybe somebody knows better but I always figured they wore whatever the sponsors were looking to showcase. Obviously they have input still.

Due to his US Open win, Cilic gets an automatic entry into the London tourney at the end of the season (provided he doesn't drop out of the top 20 when is unlikely). Milos will have to have a strong end of the season to qualify. First things first though, Davis Cup tie against Columbia this weekend (need a win to get back into the World Group).

Canada up 1-0 in the Davis Cup tie against Columbia thanks to Vasek Pospisil taking down Santiago Giraldo in straight sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-3). Milos is up shortly.

Raonic having a fairly relaxing tie against Gonzalez. It is rather impressive to sit here and watch how easily Canada is faring compared to where we were a decade ago. I still remember watching Nestor upset Kuertin in 2003 - when making the World Group was a more of a miracle rather than an expectation.

So I wasn't able to make it to the Friday matches but I did go for the doubles match yesterday. Fun atmosphere, my first ever live tennis match so I don't have anything to compare it to. Unfortunately we just weren't playing very well. It was an even match as is obvious from the first two sets going to the tiebreakers but we never seemed likely to break serve. Just couldn't manage a decent return on any serves. On the plus side that means I'll be able to watch Milos in a meaningful match today! Looking forward to that.

Serbia survives! They needed Filip Krajinovic to save them!

So the draw is set for Thursday. Canada sneaks in as a seed due to Spain's defeat

Seeded:
1 Czech Republic
2. France
3. Serbia
4. Switzerland
6. Argentina
7. Italy
8. USA
9. Canada

unseeded:
10. Kazakhstan
11. Great Britain
12. Japan
13. Germany
14. Croatia
15. Australia
16. Belgium
17. Brazil

If Canada draws Japan or Brazil it will be a home tie, anyone else and it'll be a coin toss.

Very sad to hear Li Na has decided to retire due to her injuries. She wrote a lovely post on her Facebook page:
