StL offered a solid package and if you watch the video, Nylander is awfully thin. That's a pretty tempting package, surprised that Toronto dismissed it pretty much outright. Fast forward to the 9 minute mark.

I'm not. You are far more likely to get an impact player in the top ten particularly in a draft like this one. That offer isn't tempting at all.

Hindsight being 20/20 and no idea if the picks would have been the same but I'd have done it if all the players who were picked were involved.
To TOR:
Fabbri
Barbashev
Lehtunov
To STL:
Nylander
Even if you eliminate Lehtunov you're sitting with two solid NHL prospects, and if you listen to some folks, Fabbri is Elite. I think Barbashev is on the cusp of being elite. And even Lehtunov who has Elite skill but weighs as much as a bag of charcoal @ 6'2 can turn into one heck of a player.
I like Nylander, should've gone higher IMO. But that trade would have helped T.O out more than adding another pure talent that doesnt play with much of an edge.

You always can use more pure talent.
Time will tell but I would wager than 5-7 years from now Nylander is far and away the best of that lot, and chances are 1 of the other 3 are NHLers.
Making the trade the Leafs would have to feel that at least 2 of the other 3 make it out - that's not a good bet.

You are right, only time will tell. And to add on to that, as a fan, I already hated STL when they nabbed Barbashev in the second round, this trade would solidified my hate for them forever. Their drafted has been amazing for years and yet could've slithered in and added another player like Nylander to their stable. Would have hated it!
STL day at the draft was yet again pretty remarkable. They're good at drafting. Much like Calgary has started to do in the last couple of seasons.

Who makes the final call on a pic? Is it the GM or do they use the scouts list?

Pretty sure GM has the final say but as far as I know they usually go off the scouts list for the most part and only under certain circumstances might sway from the list. I'm sure its a collaborative effort in all decisions though.

Nylander is thin, but did surprisingly well at the combine, scoring top-10 in multiple categories. I think he's one of those rare cases where the combine can actually have some significance. It can reassure you that he's more fit than he initially appears.

The footage of Bennett with his family, especially his grandparents, was really sweet. Hockey players are a special breed of athletes.

Yes, when they aren't date raping coeds and peeing on each other in the showers. Just kidding. Seriously though, there are an enormous amount of huge ######bag junior aged hockey players. Not saying Bennett is one of them.

K.
I was relating it back to Monahan and his grandpa last year at the draft and Baertschi with his family from before.

It must be hard to gain any real insight into these guys through the interview. Questions and answers are very standardized.
On a side note, Tod Button needs a stylist.
As a prospect, I would question an organization who's head scout is wearing a shiney golf shirt. Wear a suit for gods sake! The draft only happens for a few days a year; if our players have to wear suits to games, our scouring staff should do the same

So does anyone know of any trade offers we got or put out during or around draft day?

Not Really shocking that after making the pick management will circle the wagons an say this was our guy. You see it in all kinds of industries when recruiting people at the top of their field. Even if they weren't your first choice make sure they know they were your first choice and you want them to stay forever.

Sounds like there were pretty strong rumours that we were close to trading for Ribeiro and a 1st rounder but Ribeiro wouldn't waive to come here.
They also said we had a similar deal to take Can Ward off the Carolina books along with a 1st rounder. I don't believe we heard why that didn't work out.
