Default Toronto Maple Leafs... worst hockey organization ever?

I know the Leafs have been cheap and miserly but I never knew they were this cheap...

Quote:
People liked to nag Bob Pulford about two things since he began winning Stanley Cups for the Leafs in the 1960s.

When will Toronto get another? And, if he won four Cups, why does he have only one ring?

Pulford and members of the 1962 champions all received diamond rings from Leafs ownership at the time, but instead of new bling to celebrate ’63, ’64 and ’67, the team cut costs and just slightly enlarged the diamond. That was addressed Friday when Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment presented the ‘missing’ diamond rings to players such as Pulford, Red Kelly, George Armstrong, Frank Mahovlich and Johnny Bower.

Its taken the Leafs almost 50 years to right this wrong.

I know everyone likes to blame Harold Ballard for a lot of what was wrong with the Leafs in years gone past (and its well deserved blame too) but at the time '62 to '67 Ballard didn't even have controlling ownership of the team.

Leafs can't even win that distinction. They can't win anything. LOL

The Leaf are terrible... there's no way around it. For a franchise to have the most money, the biggest media machine and the most fans and to be that futile and terrible decade after decade is a special kind of failure.

That's not fair, there was that one year in the 90's when they were good.

The Gilmour era in TO was a failure?

Four of his six years in TO they made the playoffs.

The Leafs should be a comparable to the New York Yankees as an organization with all the money, media coverage and fanfare they have. In that regard they are an absolute powerhouse. If you were to say "Well the Yankees made the playoffs four of six years back in the 90s" as their crowning moment in the last half century... how would that sound?

In the context of being the largest and most financially successful franchise in the NHL... they are an absolute disaster.

That sounds like they had a good six years run in the 90s?

Question, why are we even dwelling on 60's NHL like it mattered. It had 6 teams, less than the CFL. I am all for nostalgia in sports but come on. When you have a 1/6 odd to win the championship each year that isn't something to be proud of.

So some guys got stiffed on their rings. Feel bad, but honestly it wasn't even a real league until '68 at least.

Yea, hopefully the most financially successful and popular NHL franchise has "Playoff Participant" banners hanging up to remember that six year quasi-dynasty they had for that short spell in the 90s.

Gilmour got them within a game of the Cup Finals in 93. The Leafs haven't come close since that time. To me that says something about Gilmour and his time with the Leafs.

Didn't they hold a parade to commemorate the 10th anniversary of making the conference finals in '93?

Apparently the event where they handed out the rings was also itself a massive cash-grabbing gong show

Don't ever change, Leafs. Don't ever change.
