Way too early for Monahan. Another full year at least and likely 2. Give him a couple more years to grow his game and learn from others first. I think transitioning into a more prominent role on the ice, getting better defensively and taking on less favorable icetime (offensive zone starts) is going to be enough for him.
Let Stajan, Glencross, Hudler and Backlund wear it for another year or two before the transition. If a guy is moved and a young guy takes over an "A", make it Brodie.

He already has two "A's" on the back of his jersey, we should be able to fit a few more...

I believe in the Jays.

Backlund and Stajan.
They seem like strong "lead by example" types and they will, at least in theory, be around for a while.

I don't know why Backlund isn't receiving as much recognition as he should.

Don't quite follow. He was mentioned in over half of the posts above. I think he clearly has been identified and recognized.

Backlund turned his game up several notches once he got the "A", so I'd have to say Glencross, Backlund and Stajan.

Glencross gets an A for sure.
Notwithstanding the petty hatred that CP develops for injured players, Glencross is a respected Flame who has outperformed his salary and is active in the community.

No, I was following. There just wasn't as many definitive Backlund answers as I thought there would be. I think Backlund should get one without question. I don't really see Glencross as a leader, but who knows, that could change since Cammy is gone.

Yeah Glencross and Wideman should basically be run out of town according to this board. Top 6 and top 4 players on most teams.
Glennie (A)
Stajan (A)
Backlund (A)
I think Stajan will stick around Calgary for the remainder of his career. He's very versatile in our lineup (can literally play 1st line or 4th line) and a great mentor for our young Cs.

I am good with Stajan and Backlund getting the A's for this season and the next few. I don't hate Glencross but I just like the emotion and leadership I see in Stajan and the ability for Backlund as a younger guy to bridge the gap between the vets and the rookies. Good mix of youth and vets leading the team together.

Backlund really should get an A over Stajan and Glencross.
When Hartley put that A on his jersey, he took off and never looked back.
Both Stajan and Glencross whine, bitch and complain to the refs waaaaaaay too much to be considered good leaders as far as I'm concerned. I hate that crap.

Backlund started playing great before he got an "A", but when he got it, he stepped his game up yet again. He definitely deserves to have it full time.

It would be great to see it on Stajan as well, but I'm not convinced he has a lasting role on the roster unfortunately.

McGrattan is more of an example of leadership without a letter. An absolutely amazing character, stand up team guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. But giving the letter to someone who doesn't get a whole lot of ice time isn't worth it. He's fantastic in the role he's in, and I love the guy, but it'll be all he'll be. Especially at his age.
Backlund and Glencross get my vote. Stajan if one of them is injured, followed by Hudler.
