From the "I'm still looking forward to this" department....
I'll be getting this game still for the main reason that my brother, brother-in-law and I have had a rivalry playing this game going back 15 years. While in recent years we've been able to play online from different cities (instead of just at family get-togethers), the 3rd person would wait for the other two to play their game, then play the winner, and would get the result by text message or by sitting in the xbox party chat... now I understand, with Twitch, we'll be able to broadcast the game the so the third person can watch the other two play, which is much more fun and more like those get-togethers.
This to me is a majorly big deal, and worth it even if there were no upgrades to the game itself.
I still don't know though whether Twtich is the only way to do this, or if there's a better way? If anyone knows please share.
I think if you are asking for the standard (?) $70 price for the game then you should be providing far more details on what exactly is going to be patched in, and when the consumer can expect it.

That would be the common sense approach, and would probably win them back some pre-orders and sales. But the silence just leads most people to assume they don't know what will be patched and when.
Interesting there has been no damage control from the development team, they are getting ripped to shreds on every forum I've seen regarding this game.

To be honest, it's rare to see proper damage control from EA. Either you have stone faced silence like now or a complete "We-know-what-we're-doing-and-we're-right" wall like Sim City.
Since I skipped NHL 14 before, should I just buy 14 at the 20-40 dollars and adjust the rosters myself? Because honestly, the only reason for me to buy 15 over it right now is to never hear "Finish, finish, finish...and I'm not talking about the country" again.
...And that might be worth the 30 extra.

Hope EA will fill in the missing pieces where applicable.
Played the game on the Xbone (just a few games) the hockey games themselves are interesting as the players all seem to have a 3D depth about them and their bodies. Multi-player collisions, etc.
Deke system seems improved and could add some more fun. Player control is tuned and a much bigger factor. Will have to play with offensive and defensive plays. Many times on the power play D was hanging behind the blue line?
No comment about lack of other game modes, hopefully they will fill this in on future updates.
The pass through cable for playing NHL 14 through the XBOX 360 did not work without a lag. So as a result and lack of inputs I haven't been able to play NHL since I upgraded to the Xbone.
I'm 35 years old... Videogames shouldn't bother me...
Still, EA got me disappointed on this one.
For years I've defended EA.
If it wasn't for NHL 94 I probably would not be a Calgary Flames fan. I wouldn't even be a hockey fan, but reading all this mess... very disappointing!
How is it possible to screw this game up so badly? (and that's rhetorical)

Dang so they just straight up gutted the feature list this time eh? Attempting to take things back to their basics by "rebooting" the series this time?
Yes, and it looks good. However, I don't care much about graphics and lifelike people in the audience for instance. (if I want to see that, I visit a hockey game and/or whatever sports event)
I do care about the game modes. And reading several forums doesn't satisfy me.
I've spent some time with the Access trial, and the game certainly plays well and looks pretty good. I haven't delved much into the various modes, but it definitely does seem to be somewhat of a husked version of the series we've come to know, feature-wise. The presentation and gloss is better than it's ever been and the core game is what one would expect, but the underlying substance (which one ultimately would require for true replay value) just doesn't seem to be there.
As for those who were wondering about the Flames' face situation in the game...the situation isn't good. Giordano's face is in the game now, which I was pleased to see, but the remainder of the team is by and large comprised of either generic faces or authentic ones that are incredibly inaccurate (I can't tell, in a lot of cases). Faces like Glencross, Backlund, and Stajan are the same as previous years and are clearly generic, and the only faces I've positively identified as being authentic are Gio, Hudler, and Monahan. Hudler looks about the same as last year, but Monahan looks way worse (his face looked pretty good last year, I thought).
I, like others, have generally defended the franchise and its iterative nature over the years because it has always been a fairly good product even in the years that it seemed like more of a minor update than a new game. However, this year seems more "degenerative" than iterative, and EA has a lot of work to do to get the series back up to the standard of the previous generation. To assume we'd all be so distracted by the new commentary, wavy jerseys, and presentation that we wouldn't notice all of the omissions is a little silly, and I hope they're able to at least partially do right by us on this one. This will be a fun game, and those only worried about having a fun game of hockey to play on their XB1/PS4 needn't worry at the end of the day, but the game as a whole clearly leaves a lot to be desired. As of now, NHL 15 on the new-gen is a lonely and unseasoned slab of beef on a plate all by itself, cooked medium well with a glass of water and no sides, garnish, or fixins.

Talked to a number of friends who are completely unaware of the missing features despite being a fan of the game or interested in buying it. I'm sure the scathing reviews will be bound to get some people digging deeper but I don't see much hope in a shocking failure for EA.
Edit: Appears that 'the draft' is being patched in. Specifically Be A GM or maybe changes to Be A Pro? Who knows.
No comment on simming to your next shift in Be A Pro though. Not being able to do that makes that mode completely unplayable.

And this is disappointing, though not really surprising based on everything else that's left out of the game. At least Giordano is finally in there.

So a whole huge list of concerns/ommissions and the only thing from EA so far is: "We are putting in a draft as part of current updates."
No word on when these current updates will happen. No word on what these updates will actually entail (which suggests to me there isn't going to be a huge day one update as typically you know well ahead of itme the issue a patch is going to fix).
I do like the sounds of "new draft" though. That part of the game has needed an overhaul for years.
I'd prefer bringing in some sort of time limit to make deals between/during the rounds. Put some pressure and real time drama to do something. But given the "new" Stanley Cup celebration I expect they'll just make the phones look like a smartphone or something.
not having some sort of media update from the ea nhl team is pretty amazing. If there is even a little bit coming in these content patches, why not express that publicly? My bet is that they aren't going to make any kind of media update to the public until after the launch so as to avoid notifying pre-order customers or folks intent on buying the game launch day who haven't followed the pre-launch reaction.
