So help a guy out with this...
I have Shaw direct with all the SN channels. I also sign up for this Rogers Game Centre.
The Flames are playing early Toronto on a national night (say wednesday for ####s and giggles). I am working in Vancouver but don't have access to a TV.
Will I be able to stream this on my phone? I know I wasn't able to last year because the game was nationally televised.
Edit - I think snowdude answered for me, thx

I need to figure out a system for Sportsnet West (Flames) games when I'm in BC (cabin) this winter.
Any ideas?

Totally different.
1) If I am using VPN to circumvent the GCL blackout, atleast I am still a proper and legitimate subscriber of GCL and my money is going to the rights holders. This might be borderline morally or ethically wrong.
2) If I pay the company you mentioned for streaming, I am directly stealing content and intentionally depriving the rights holder of their money. This is just downright illegal.

My worry here is that people like myself and some other above who use GCL instead of cable are going to get screwed somehow.

Ya put me in this camp too. Hopefully GCL will remain somewhat untouched for those who want to cut cable.

It is for Local games if you have Rogers Cable with the channel the game is on.
I also just tried to go to Gamecenter with my VPN on and it directs me to Rogers. I'm thinking Unblock-us will not work for NHL games this year.
Words can't describe how pissed off I am about this.

I think it will work for local games no matter who your cable provider is as long as you subscribe to the Sportsnet package.

Since us non-Rogers people are going to be asked to pay full freight for GCL, maybe, just maaaaybe, some details are in order. Like, how much will we pay this season? When can we re-register? What changes can we expect?
Instead, nothing.

I think the majority of people that use Gamecenter don't have cable or support an out of market team.
I've been both.

I misread your original post as expecting a discount. Sorry
However, the price is stated as $199 like previous years, it's cut with little info on what changes are coming at the same time and with the same amount of info as every other year. Not sure what is different?

Nah. I think this person is just suspicious of a monopoly that is free to manipulate an audience as they wish. Rogers has the ball and they should be explicit about how they intend to charge people to see what they do with it. Hockey's audience didn't get to choose Rogers to be the sole holder of all NHL rights in the country.
Where I live, Rogers is probably fourth or fifth tier in terms of TV/Internet service delivery and value. They just suck here. The packages they offer aren't competitive in this market. This is Bell and Videotron country. Now I'm stuck with the idea paying $200 bucks for the year and not knowing explicitly what games I'm going to be able to watch. It's hard to be excited.

They've already stated: all the same out of market games, + local SportsNet if you subscribe to SportsNet. So the same price, but more games. Why are people complaining? I'm confused
And there was always a monopoly. NHL owned 100% of the online distribution excluding national games.

I was blown away by losing my service during a time frame I was supposed to still have service.
I would be happy to pay the extra $$$ if it means its live and not 6 Minutes behind. Its annoying when I get a SMS notification informing me of a goal that wont happen for another 6 minutes.
