Icon30 Shane O'Brien on PTO with Florida Panthers

OMG, I thought I'd never have to endure O'Brien again. Please tell me I don't have to watch his trademark slow-motion spin-o-rama at his own blue line again...

The 31-year-old O'Brien appeared in 45 games with the Flames in 2013-14, managing just three assists while logging roughly 11 minutes per game and posting absolutely brutal underlying numbers.

"Shane is very happy to have the opportunity to come to Panthers camp and push to make the team," Upshall told Rimer. "He's had a really good summer training and is in the best shape of his career."
…I really hope he doesn't manage to stick with the team. He was one of the few wastes of space on the team last year. The Panthers defense doesn't really need him unless he's an AHL call up, and even then I'd rather someone else.

I'm shocked that anyone gave him a chance after last year. Even if they are going for a d-man with physicality they have to know that Burke would have kept him if he wasn't the worst defenseman in the entire league.

I hope he gets the job if he deserves it and you can just not watch the Panthers play. I would hate to see you suffer you poor thing.

Uh, not sure that was warranted.

First time season ticket holder and I'm excited for the new year for the Panthers. I think it will mirror Calgary's year in that it will be a lot of losing, but building towards something good. I was so glad that the Flames got rid of him. I wasn't expecting him to be on a team I was cheering for this year, so yeah, it's a little annoying when that happens.

Not sure why people feel the need to take a dump over someone else for no reason.

Guess they figure Ekblad needs a good mentor - his spin-o-rama just isn't good enough for the NHL.

Honestly though, I think the only way he sticks on the team is if Tallon figures they need a face puncher to protect the kids (or he wants to compete with Buffalo in tanking for McDavid).

The former is possible, but that's why they got Thornton, and he's a much better player than O'Brien is, with likely less responsibility.

Did SOB break up with you or something?

The simple fact that there is still NHL interest in SOB should be a clear message to all those who are dreaming of expansion.

Let the guy live man. Lots of hate. He wasn't my favorite either but I'm not obsessed with his demise. He is not a worry anymore so relax. Ya shouldn't wish ill will like that when it comes to their life. Maybe you are not the best at your position in your profession, but that's no reason to wish you the worst for you and in turn, your family. Stupid thread. Not sure why anyone would feed into this.

I guess the talk of Schultz being a Norris Trophy caliber defenseman is giving everyone new hope!
