Really it's only one loose service game that has cost her. And blowing more break points. This could be like the 4th round match in Australia where she lost the first set in a breaker but rolled the next two. Makarova's first serve is already declining from it's big highs early. Just gotta keep going.

Match might get away from her now though after blowing that game with many easy misses. That wasn't good to watch.

Well that was a nice fight from 0-30 down but to give away more break points is so demoralizing. Genie not coming through in the big shots like she has been this year at the majors.

I mean realistically 4th round was probably her ceiling coming in, considering her play leading in. And really she hasn't played well either and made the 4th round anyways.

Really needed the break there I think. Getting to 15-30 and netted the return. But it should already be over so let's see if she can do it again.

Even more than working on her serve, Genie needs to learn how to finish points. There are lots of times she seems to have control of a point and is dictating the play, but seems hesitant to come in for the net play and tries to keep pounding winners, which when so many girls get so many balls back, is what contributes to her error problems because she doesn't come in and force the issue. Her in game management just needs more development to know how to play the game better.

Be interesting to see how she approaches her upcoming tournaments because she's still in position to qualify for the year end tournament, but will need some good results in Asia to get there.

I realize the year isn't over yet, but I think she and her coaches need to look at her schedule management for next year. She looked so drained today...both physically and mentally. The humidity certainly didn't help, but she truly did look done.

not sure it was her schedule it was her playing 3 set matches the last two matches in the NY humidity.
