Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan is aware the temperature is going to be turned up in his sophomore season. The 19-year-old wouldn't have it any other way.
After a 22-goal season -- the most by a Flames rookie since 1989-90 and one more than a fresh-faced Jarome Iginla scored in 1996-97 -- Monahan is ready for bigger challenges.
"I think there will be more pressure this year," Monahan said. "There's an expectation now. I have to be better than last year. That's something I want to do and something I've worked really hard on over the summer to be ready for that.
"As a player, you've got to be up for those challenges. That's something I like to do. It's getting more exciting and it's going to be a challenge I'm really looking forward to."

"Now that you've been in the League, and I've talked to Sean a lot about this when I first got the job, you go from hope to expectation," Treliving said. "Pressure is what you deal with in this business. To me, we put more pressure on ourselves than anyone can externally, but expectation now is that you've done it.
"In a lot of ways, this could be a more difficult year. You come in last year, nobody knows who the heck Sean Monahan is. Now people do know him. There's less ice. There's less room out there. When people play the Calgary Flames, opposing coaches are going to circle his name. It makes it difficult, but that's the challenge good players rise to."
Quote:
"This summer has been huge for me," said Monahan, who expects to weigh more than 205 pounds when training camp begins. "I know what to expect coming into this camp and stuff like that. The little things I've needed to adjust this summer to prepare, I've done that.
"The biggest thing for me is to be quicker. I've done a lot of sled work for leg power and acceleration. It's really helped out and I feel great on the ice."
Quote:
"This year I want to improve on my all-around game," he said. "I want to come out of this season as a high-plus player and do all the little things well and doing whatever I can to help the team win games.
"Putting the puck in the net and doing all the little things that help chip in will be key."

Can't find any evidence that Neill has attended an NHL development camp this summer
edit: Sherbrooke Phoenix confirm Neill will be attending Flames camp:

Neill is a good two-way blueliner who looks to push the puck ahead to his forwards off quick transitions. While he has the size and strength to play a physical game he does not engage consistently. Makes some bad decisions at times. Skating is another area that needs refinement. (November 2013)
Neill was listed on Central Scouting's "B" list last September (projected 2nd or 3rd round pick for the 2014 draft)

Did attend Calgary Flames development camp in 2013. Went to Habs camp this past July.
I'm predicting Padakin gets a contract. He's improved in his tenure with the hitmen and would at the very least be a free RW prospect they can see if he sticks through a year or two of development. Seems like a late bloomer to me.

I read the below and all I could think was "Boring Monahan" sending a stream of texts to Bennett. Made me laugh.
"He talked about Calgary and what it was like. As soon as I got picked by Calgary, he was all over me, texting me and stuff. He's definitely a great guy to talk to," Bennett said. "All he was saying was good things about Calgary. After hearing him talk about that, it made me want to go to Calgary so badly. I was lucky enough to be picked by them."
As great a thing as it was that we were able to get Bennett in the draft, he's going to have to really do something special to get me to like him more than I like Monahan.

He's been a Flame two months

Anyway.. I wonder if Bennett will still be as pleased when he is sent back to the OHL? I mean, all hes talked about is how he will be a Flame this year. Hope theres no resentment.

He's a confident, driven kid. If he is sent back to the OHL he'll just work extra hard to make sure he's with the Flames in 2015.

I dont know what it is, it just seems hes got a NHL or bust mentality right now.
I hope he doesnt resent the Flames for it if it happens. It will show a big time character flaw.
Yeah, everyone gets it, you think Bennett might be resentful. No need to repeatedly post it if it doesn't catch the first time. When the post calling your first mention of it ridiculous gets 30 thanks, it's probably a wicked sign not to keep making the same statement.
But I'm just expressing my opinion. Hope it's ok
Bennett has a good head on his shoulders and nothing he has said suggests he would be resentful for any outcome next month. Claiming otherwise is just trying to stir the pot.

The rosters are slowly coming together. I looked back at the previous young star tournaments and they typically released the roster a couple weeks prior to the event. Based on previous timeframes the rosters should start coming out very shortly.

Every player drafted where he was talks like that and most get sent back. He knows it's a very real possibility I'm sure
