Default Moving Question

I am moving from one area of my city to the other, about a 15 minute drive. If I hired someone with a truck (mover), to help me move a few items (120 pounds max-about 5 items total), how much would they charge, especially if they are a small company, and charges by the load weight, and distance?

I just wanted to get a ballpark figure. If anyone has had experience with this, please let me know. Thanks.

I think they would charge you by the hour.

it would probably only take an hour, or 90 mins at the most. Hopefully its not too much.

I did this last year, was a minimum 2 hour charge as others have said for 2 guys and the truck.
It wasn't exactly cheap compared to a couple of buddies helping (thinking $260) but on the upside it was all done completely in under 2 hours, which made it worth while.

Give this guy (Frank) a call.
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-moving-storag...ling/589173710

He runs around in a 1ton pickup with side walls. For a small job like this he'll be cheap and do a good job. I wouldn't usually recommend dealing with most people on Kijiji but I've known him for years.

From the sounds of it, you don't live in Calgary, and the company you are looking at is not a well known company. So in the time it took you to start a thread, asking for people from a different city, based on their experiences with other companies, how much you should expect to be charged, maybe the most reasonable thing to do, would have been to pick up the phone, or hit the "Contact us" button on the company in questions website (if they have one) and ask them directly what they charge, based on your requirements?

I get leveraging a community for knowledge and experience when you are attempting to do something yourself, without past experience, like a DIY project, or Purchasing a house/car/other big item, but when you're looking for a quote on something a company offers, doesn't it just make sense to deal with them?

It'd be different if you asked for people's past experience with moving companies, and recommendations and approximate costs, but you seem to have one in mind, and are asking about costs by load weight and mileage..... that's something that differs by company..

We used a couple of guys to help my aunt move her bigger items this weekend that was recommended by her realtor. If you are interested, PM me and I can provide you with their number. They do this on the side, so their rates were pretty good and they did a good job for my aunt.

Perhaps, and sorry but I was under the assumption that Calgary and Edmonton would have similar rates, as well as companies, as the two cities are 3 hours away. I probably should have made that more clear.

I was looking more or less for a ballpark figure, and the experiences people have had with different moving companies in Alberta (what they recommend).

Sorry, my initial response came across very A$$holeish, your opening post just came across like someone asking what the best pizza place in Flin Flon is, and how much the community collectively believes they should charge for a medium... It seemed like a questions best answered by the company you're looking into.

As for retrieving possessions from a premise you have vacated, did you ever have a lease, or bills in your name mailed to that address?
I've had situations like this happen in the past to several friends, and if you can prove you lived there, and prove the possessions are yours, if needed, the police will escort you to the premise, and stand by while you collect your items. Obviously it's not ideal, and can strain a relationship further, but if the ex landlord/friend, is basically stealing from you, how much more strained can it get? Otherwise, small claims, which is a big waste of time, because you're going to have to provide more proof to them about ownership of the belongings, then you would the police.

Best of luck.

Trick question.

The best pizza is actually from RJs in Creighton (2km from Flin Flon).

That's cheating, the question was best IN Flin Flon. Now if you had included that they provide free delivery to Flin Flon, I may have accepted the answer, but as it stands, you think to far outside of my pizza box.
I wish I lived in Flin Flon, so I could order from RJ's now though, unless of course, the best in/near Flin Flon is not as good as the best in Lethbridge.

I just looked at some of the recent threads you've started... You've got some stories man... I think you should make a thread called "Jets4Life - My life stories"

From Dating sites, to Father (Male) Rights to Foreign Girlfriends and then Moving Out... It's like an entire circle of life on the first few search results!

Its nor cheating at all. The reason to ask is that you are in Flon Flon and want good pizza. I answered that..

You don't want to live in Flon Flon, trust me.
