Although not a lot really happened it did set up storylines for better things in the coming episodes. A couple of things bother me in that Corey Stoll's hairpiece is horrible as if you are going to wear a rug at least use one that depicts a hairline that is actually possible. That sharp 'V' hairline is overly distracting. Also maybe it's me but everyone calling him "F" sounds kind of dumb. Small nitpicks as I will keep watching in hopes of a payoff.

Lookin' good. The second episode took more time to develop the characters, and set the mood. I look forward to seeing how an old man can stop the vampiric horde.

There's always an old guy who knows the secrets in this type of show/movie. I'm not too concerned on how he might do it, it's obviously going to do with something about knowledge of the situation. Though that sword sounds like it has special powers vs vamps.

I do agree the bits with him are probably the best though. The exchange with him and vampire butler was good. I always get intigued with holocaust backstorys, which seems to be where they are going. Guess I'm kinda warped.

But I'm am already dreading bits with the main character. His acting is brutal, his dialogue is brutal and he's such a stock character. And now he's an alcoholic too? Ok, let's trot out every single investigator/officer trope there is and just throw it all into this guy.

And his companion? Stock eye candy with the glasses and English accent to prove what a knowledgeable and competent scientist she is? She has zero personality, has done nothing, just goes around with him making a semi relevant comment every once in a while.

I'll give it two more episodes to work through my feelings, and if I'm gone after that, you'll know my decision. I do agree people who don't like things shouldn't come in and poop all over the thread for people who do enjoy it. But I'm working through my thoughts right now, so I think that's fair.

The girl biting dad was pretty cool. Even if they pretty much ripped off the Claudia character from Interview with a Vampire.

Yeah it's not perfect that's for sure. The writing and acting in particular is actually pretty disappointing when you consider a heavyweight (for TV) like Guillermo del Toro is involved but that can all be fixed with some solid episodes of vampire mayhem.

Since there are some really good shows currently on (The Leftovers, Ray Donovan, Generation Kill, Masters of Sex) plus still a few movies id like to watch, I've decided to PVR all of season one and binge watch it as soon as i can after the finale.

Episode 3 was pretty good as well, pretty creepy show. If they had only listened to Eff when they had a chance, now humanity is doomed!!

Good monster show and I like the pacing of it. The vampires are similar to the Reaper Vampires from Blade 2 which was a movie Guillermo del Torro worked on. So I don't think they are completely new.

It's amazing how reliably things or people that should be under surveillance or protection disappear or get away in this show to serve the plot. 3 episodes in and it's already happened four or five times?

Two hundred and six bodies disappear from the morgue. Sure, the medical inspector was killed, but still... Two hundred and six man!

The coffin box is not properly watched or quarantined and disappears.

The pilot gets out of his medical quarantine and no one notices.

Pretty sure there was at least one more, but I can't think of it right now. But it's like no one can do their job properly, and common sense precautions are always overlooked.

These details are killing the show for me.

And buddy's junk just falls off? That was weird. Not sure how he'd be able to pee if it was just about to fall off, not to mention why he'd be so smooth underneath. You'd think there'd be a wound, kinda bloody and scabby at first. Though, I've probably just given way to much thought to his junk, haha.

I'm probably just expecting too much from this show. It's pretty much a typical monster/horror type flick. The acting is bad. The writing is bad, and constantly missing details or continuity and consistency that pulls you out of the show. But that's about 90% of the genre.

But the monster parts are quite good, and it does get to a good level of creepy at points.

I guess I was just expecting it to be a smarter than average horror show.

You came in to a monster TV show with expectations! Did you watch John Oliver on Friday? He talks about how nobody does their job properly with the nuclear program. It was funny and terrifying at the same time.

So people not doing there jobs at a guard post doesn't bother me too much, but I get your point.

Haha, well that is true. Although when your watching a series and it's 0/4 on the guard post trope, it feels different than examples from a much larger sample size.

But yeah, some of those examples were on the terrifying side. And real world to boot!

Yeah I saw the show, so I knew what was talking about and didn't view the video. Of course I also saw the bit with geckos, so I wasn't surprised to see that on the title frame.

Space Geckos!

Depending on how you jump from one video to the next on youtube, the url doesn't always change with the video. I used to do that all the time in sending vids to friends via e-mail.

Well hope everyone has seen the latest episode, that was one of the best so far and the end of the episode introduces a new twist and a kick ass one at that.

It's definitely picked up from the first few episodes. There's just something off though. With del Toro behind it you would expect top notch writing and acting but it's actually the exact opposite where the acting and writing is so bad it feels like a low budget CBC series. This is a really bad series and yet I keep watching it because vampires are cool and I want to see the vampire master plan and what this new twist brings. I chalk this series up as a "It's so bad it's good" show.

Yeah its weird like that, some acting is just brutal, some of the casting choices odd at best, but I'm looking forward to seeing the rat catcher I think he will become a great character, and of course the new twist at the end of the last show.

Maybe it will start to feel like watching the Walking Dead after a while, but I'm just too drawn to vampire and zombies I will have to see what happens next.

I read the books on vacation and the show matches pretty close so far in terms of quality (think mindless pulp paperback fiction). If you're looking for intellectual horror or quality writing, I would recommend elsewhere. However, I find the story is decently paced and some of the scenes so far have been stellar.

Also, I think Del Toro is one of the best concept guys around even if his storytelling is a little undewhelming. Hellboy and Pan's Labrynth have simply stunning creature and set designs, and I'm hoping we see something like that in this show.

It really does remind of a cheap Canadian show. Such awful acting. The plot is interesting but I can't really enjoy it because I'm so distracted by the bad acting.
