I agree. I also think its hilarious we have people posting about the palate of Canadians when we're discussing fast food. Can't we all just recognize that fast food isn't about the best possible quality, its about convenience and being "good enough". Most of the allure of Tims is that when you order a coffee or bagel or whatever you have a consistent experience. Is the coffee the greatest ever? Probably not. But when you're on your way wherever and just want a cup, you get what you expect at Tims.

My only complaint is that people with a Tim's habit forces others to wait while they get their fix (ex. on the way to the ski hill, and on the way home).

Yeah I don't think most people care if others like Tim Hortons, people like Nickelback after all. Just don't try to ever convince others that Tim Hortons makes good quality products is all. You can like it for whatever reasons you do, but spouting the quality of the products is not a viable or realistic reason. Outside the coffee virtually nothing they make is actually fresh at all, which should automatically eliminate quality as a reason to enjoy it.

The absolute nerve of people talking about the quality of Tim Horton's food in a thread about Tim Horton's.
The absolute nerve.

Anyway...a bit back on the original topic.
Yes, it looks like the only reason BK is doing this is for the tax benefits. US corporate tax rates are insane. You are looking at 34-35% federally, and then adding 6-10% for state tax (depending what states of course). Some companies stare a 45% corporate tax in the face and then there is public outcry when the companies try to lower their tax bill.
Whenever I hear people arguing that the Canadian corporate tax rate should be increased to "increase revenues", I always think of the US and their insanely high corporate tax rates. That is why you have lower corporate tax rates - to attract business in Canada.
Sorry - a bit of a tax rant.
tl;dr - BK is likely making this move solely for tax purposes becuase the US corporate rate is massive.

I don't give a crap that people eat there. I am just as guilty of eating their slop. Like another poster said, it is a convenient, and predictable way to get basic sustenance in your body. Kinda like the slop they eat in The Matrix.
My confusion, is how they have managed to be so incredibly successful, serving such incredibly awful food. Out of every fast food chain, their food is the absolute worst by a huge margin, yet people talk about 'Timmie's' like it is mom's meatloaf or something.
I still blame it on the sheep like mentality of people after watching their faux patriotism commercials. And them somehow tying paraffin wax coated, deep fried dough balls, to national pride. I don't know if it is more brilliant marketing by Tim Hortons, or the sheer stupidity of us as Canadians.

I get why it would be popular in small-town Canada. In these places, it's played the role of the gathering place for local to congregate and chat. It's probably less about the food, and more about the habit and role it plays in the community. 20-30 years ago, at least the donuts were good, and people really didn't have a lot of coffee options, so I guess people just kept the habit going even though the food descended into the awful crap it is today.
Why anyone in a city with other choices would go there though...I have no idea. There's pretty much always a better option less than a block or two away.

Is the solution to eliminate corporate taxes all together along with the dividend and capital gains tax breaks then replace it with a consumption tax?

The CAF loves their Tim's. We have Tim's Tactical mobile units that travel over seas with us.
Tim's also donates tons of coffee to ships that are going on a long deployment.
Im going to Tim's right now... screw the haters.-

A little slice of Tim's in the middle of nowhere will remind soldiers of home. Pretty hard for them not to love it.

Tim Hortons gets the same treatment as Apple, Microsoft, etc. as with the advent of the internet it's become second nature for people that have a personal dislike for a popular product to irrationally hate that product. Is Tim Hortons an A+ food establishment? No it isn't but you can easily pick apart the menu of every large fast food chain if you wish. Why anyone would waste their time and energy on that is beyond me.
I unapologetically like their coffee and the only food item I eat from them with any regularity is the Ham & Swiss sandwich which IMO isn't half bad because they use real lettuce (not chopped up iceberg) and non-processed swiss cheese. Their bagels aren't that bad as well as I don't mind the odd everything bagel, toasted with herb & garlic cream cheese. Their donuts are decent enough and I don't hear anyone ever complain when they are brought into the office. I think their breakfast sandwiches are gross and inferior to McDonalds but then again has anyone tried a Subway breakfast sandwich? Breakfast sandwiches are kind of gross by definition. I'm one of those people that would never purchase chili or pasta from a fast food outlet so I can't comment on that stuff. If you like it great if not that's great also as I don't eat it and don't care.
Bottom line is that some of their food is decent or comparable to other fast food offerings and some of it is pretty crappy fare like most fast food chains. I just don't get why some people feel they need to passionately hate Tim Hortons like they wronged you somehow. Don't like it, don't go there. Pretty simple.

Not that simple, when 2-3 people in your car have to stop there twice a day.

It used to be good. The coffee was very good and the donuts were made in store and it amassed a huge customer base. then some genius decided to turn it from quality to filth to save a few cents per order and now we get the slop.

And then you create a massive depression as you've just created a huge tax incentive to save, thereby having a tonne of liquidity pulled from the market and a tonne of consumption pulled back.
Great as a 3 line theory, impossible in practice.

Well it's not irrational hatred of Tim Hortons, it's mostly being mystified that something considered so mediocre to poor by so many is so popular. You pretty much acknowledge its mediocre (the food anyways). For instance I know of no one who outright calls Tim's great. Same cannot be said for Apple or Microsoft which while some may not like the other, most acknowledge their products to be of good to high quality. Their hate is more irrational because it can't really be backed up. People have legitimate reasons for disliking Tim Hortons.

I agree with Pylon. Nothing makes me cringe more when some company comes on T.V and tells us "eat or drink our crap, it's the Canadian thing to do"!

I've gone on record here with my hate for timmies.
There are, however, many people that think that Tim Hortons is actually the best coffee around which is shocking and confusing.
