Excellent points! With Mario, you knew what he was going to do but he did it anyway because...he was Mario and you couldn't stop him. Gretzky froze teams with his creativity: you never knew what he was going to do next, just that he was going to burn you. Johnny has SOME of that creativity, in addition to great puck skills, which is why we are so excited about him.
Yeah exactly. If there is one thing about Johnny that excites me is that I've never seen a guy like him. His size leads to questions - but each level he reaches he continues to just do his thing. And his thing is completely unique.
The guy is a special talent and very unique player. Trying to project what he will actually be at the NHL level is VERY difficult but I would be hesitant to confine him based on any past history of small players. This guy has no comparable.
Much more positive than I thought it would be. Won't be a playoff team but they're doing the right things. Gaudreau gets name dropped as a guy that will need to step up and produce. The very fact that he gets named with Backlund, Monahan and Hudler is pretty significant IMO.
Can't we all be exicted about Gaudreau without being ridiculous and comparing him to all-time legends?
Yeah, it's ridiculous to compare him to players like Gretz. Why set the bar so low? I honestly see 600 goals and 1300 points from him.
Seriously though, I do think Bennett is a top, top prospect and he is most definitely our top prospect in terms of potential-versus-likelihood-of-reaching-said-potential. Johnny is a wildcard who very well could become an offensive wizard in the NHL, but Bennett has franchise player potential.

The way I look at it is that Gaudreau is the more talented and skilled player when comparing the two. Bennett though is much more likely to translate his skills into becoming a legit star player because of their sizes.

Approximately 9 months prior to Gaudreau's b-day, the LA Kings and Gretz played the Devils in Jersey. Isn't that where Johnny hockey was born? Only conjecture on my part...
I heard his midichlorian count was off some charts etc.

Agreed. When i watch Johnny skate I thank God that Scott Stevens is no longer playing.

I would go as far as saying that Bennett is equally talented, if not more so than JG. More skilled? Perhaps not. JG's stick work is pretty nearly untouchable. He's certainly the more visually stimulating player, but I think Bennett does many more things well than Johnny did at similar stages in their careers. Bennett has elite offensive potential, and is looked at pretty fondly for his defensive tenacity. Johnny is the better player right now, but he's also had 3 more years of development.
If people want a more reasonable, realistic comparison (instead of the 'style of play' comparisons), you could look at Detroit and call Johnny a more highly skilled version of Gustav Nyquist. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see Johnny take a similar career path, with a couple of years between the AHL and NHL before really hitting his stride in the NHL.
“@coreypronman: If I had to rank fanbase outrage from the top prospects series it would go:
1. CGY
2. CGY again
3. DET
4. DAL
5. COL/NYR tie.”
