I'll disagree with that. He made some amazing PbP calls during the early playoff rounds this year with enough passion and emotion. Peoplejust hear things differently I suppose. Actually really enjoy his play calling when he's not tire pumping the Oilers.

He's a marginal upgrade, but why only make it an iota better with Lee when you can grab almost any other experienced pbp guy who will do a significantly better job? I'd argue Lee can be as annoying to listen to as Kerr, though for different reasons. There are only a small handful of guys that I'd rather not have on board and Lee is one of them. Nearly anyone else and I'd be a happy camper, such as anyone who has pretty much ever called a game for TSN. They're all great (in comparison).

Looks like the regularly scheduled complaining about Flames PBP is starting extra early this season...before they even call a single game, that must be new.

A team of TWO national-broadcast-quality guys calling regional games, and it's still not good enough? Jeebus. Maybe we should get Kevin Quinn back to remind you of true pain.

Yes, because we've had Lee calling Flames games on weekends and playoffs for several years. Unless regional broadcast Lee is different from national broadcast Lee, don't really need to hear him call the first game to know he's a sub par pbp announcer.

I'm fairly sure Rick Ball isn't even in the mix. He's a Vancouverite and still does the BC Lions radio PBP.

As for a Lee/Hrudy combo, I'd be ecstatic to listen to these two each game. Hrudy doesn't really have the typical TV voice, but he's knowledgeable and a pro. I don't mind Mark Lee at all either.

Don't understand why people keep saying that Lee is 'emotionless'

I find his emotion in his voice plentiful, it's not like screaming into the mike emotion, but it's good enough to show he cares AND not sound like a pubescent 14 year old.

And his 'excitement' voice is just fine. I also really like how he just sticks to the game -- never tells random stories then yells 'SC000000RES!!1!1!' Into the mic.

All and all -- I'd love to have him as our pbp guy.

My god this place is impossible to please.

Five years ago, if you mentioned any of these names as potential regional guys, you would have been laughed off this site.

Part of the problem is we had Peter Maher for so many years. When you have a guy that good, a guy who most National guys would be honoured to hold his jock, then everything seems like a downgrade, be it radio or TV.

But c'mon people, the names being thrown out there now, were only a fantasy a few years back. If we get Mark Lee, we will go from the bottom third to the top third in PBP quality in the league.
