Sounds like Gaudreau did put some pressure on for him to sign with the Flames:

I know no one will echo this, but I feel sorry for Hawks fans. It's really gotta suck to lose a 1st rounder for NOTHING. At least we got something back for Erickson.

Well, they are getting a compensatory pick... And in a draft where the general consensus says is it's one of the deepest drafts ever in history. I bet Hawks' fans were angered at first, but pretty sure no one is losing sleep over it.

Geez that is concerning, doesn't Johnny read CP, this Hayes guy sucks, he is terrible and overhyped. Why would Johnny want to have that type of overblown overhyped prima dona on his team? Read CP to get your hockey intel Johnny before you do something crazy like try to convince a former 1st rounder to sign with us.

I don't understand why being close to home was such a huge factor, in the pros you're gonna be travelling all over anwyays. If he wants the best chance to play in the NHL at all, RW strength and roster availability would be first on your list of priorities. What a momma's boy.
He should've listened to Gaudreau.

Please this thread went from sign him he is a great prospect (when people thought the Flames would sign him) to we should not get some prima dona who is so self centered that unsubstantiated Internet rumours have him demanding a NHL position to good he sucked anyway and will be traded in two years like Erixon. I am pretty sure the bitterness is the hypocrisy of those latter positions. It is too bad he did not sign in Calgary, I thought he was a good prospect to start and still think he is a good prospect. 6'4 wingers who put up 65 points in the NCAA do not come along everyday.

Surprising to see Hayes go to the Rags as they are pretty full at his position but a young guys chance to live the dream in the big apple makes sense. Best of luck to him.

I never thought Florida was a legit option. I would hate to play the same position as my brother and beat him for a spot.
Calgary never has a free roster spot for rookies. We always carry too many vets and ice them anyways because" injuries happen". I'm sure its very demoralizing for our prospects. I can't say I blame Hayes for his choice.
