That would be interesting... Financially all the offers are going to be the same (ELC + max bonus schedule) so certain teams can sell him on favourable tax rates, teams with personal connections (Friends & Family) probably have them upselling the organization, org depth charts to sell him on the amount of opportunity he'll have, current contenders can sell him on the championship aspirations. Depending on Hayes personality certain teams can sell him on fame (alternatively if he's more of a private person certain teams can sell him on hockey's lower profile in their market).
I'd definetly like to be a fly on the wall for negotiations where money is effectively taken out of the equation.

Not much he can do if the reports that Hayes doesn't want to play in Canada is accurate.

Must not be doing anything at all, seeing how he hasn't phoned you or I to let us know.

If only players made FA decisions based on the eagerness of that teams fans forum and not real life factors. Im not sure if your comment was serious or a joke, but either way its funny.

He hasn't signed to play here yet, so obviously not.

Hayes camp: We appreciate the fact that you're letting us hang onto the post-dated, signed and witnessed 6x6 contract for after the ELC expires guys, but Kevin just wants to stick around closer to home
Unnamed "NHL" club: preeeeetty sure we won't be here for too long anyway, wasn't it obvious we're building something special, devaluing the f### out of it and selling to the lowest bidder?

Last I heard still actively trying to dig up some dirt on this kid in hopes the Flames can use any skeletons in his closet to extort him.

Love these responses, thanks CP.
Just expressing my frustrations with the lack of Calgary-related rumours or speculation coming out in regards to this. It is entirely out of our control, though. I am aware of that lol.

Well I just hope he put in a damn good pitch. Also spamming Hayes' phone with texts wouldn't hurt either.. maybe with some selfies with Bill and Johnny, holding bags of cash, surrounded by strippers and blow..

This is the Flames we're talking about, not the Jets.
What pitch can Treliving really make, outside of, "We're young, short on RW's, and your best buddies from College are here".

Several young players will get a number of games with the Flames this year. Some might be ready and some will need some more AHL seasoning. Why not give Hayes a few games to see what we have (assuming he signs here)?

I'd say it worked pretty well with Colborne.

Do you guys honestly think that a team is really going to promise NHL time to him?
I don't think there is a team in the league that would play a player because they "promised" time to him if there is a better player available and on the roster (or on the farm).
I just think he wants to pick a team weak on the right side so he has the BEST chance to make it the quickest, Calgary obviously fits this role.

Two quick points - First (in response to TheDebaser), Calgary didn't sign Colborne as a FA, so there was no need to promise any playing time to him. He earned his spot, just as the team has been preaching.
Second (in response to Weitz), yes... Edmonton. It seems to be pretty common knowledge that Edmonton made certain promises to Schultz to sign there that included some guaranteed NHL time. I'm sure they also hinted that he didn't to worry about figuring out where his own end of the ice is as we all know Edmonton doesn't care about defence.
With respect to Hayes, I really hope the Flames don't make any promises about not having to 'earn' a spot in the bigs. As Fotze points out, I don't think it is worth the message it sends to the rest of the team and prospects. If we can sign him, great. If not, meh.

He was a bit different because he would be exposed to waivers if sent down.

I would argue that Colborne didn't earn his spot. He was especially slow to start the season and looked worse than Baertschi a lot of the time IMO. Guys like Poirer and Street looked significantly better during camp too.
