Default Top 5 family films (non-animated)

As per a request, this is a tough category for me because so many things qualify as family entertainment, but I would suggest that we should stick to films that are geared towards anyone under 13 as the primary audience.

1. The Neverending Story
2. Mary Poppins
3. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder version)
4. The Karate Kid
5. Goonies

HM: The entire Harry Potter series (can't just pick one movie), The Muppet Movie, The Sound of Music, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Hook, Elf, Time Bandits, Labyrinth, Explorers, Stand By Me.

See this is a tough one for me. I remember watching it when I was young and not really getting how great it was. It was only when I was a little older I fully appreciated it. I feel like it's a film geared towards adults more than kids. That's why it's not on my list. Great film though.

I have no idea where Princess Bride is supposed to go, probably why they did such a terrible job marketing it. I was going to wait for action movies without 'splosions.

Romantic, whimsical, action movies without 'splosions.

My daughter (nearly 8) loves the movie. It was here first non-animated movie and is a staple in the rotation in the car.

For this topic I can only draw on the beginnings of "real" movie watching with my daughter so it consists of:

1) The Princess Bride
2) Whale Rider
3) pick a Harry Potter any Harry Potter
4) Percy Jackson

Her latest favourite is Spice World. Damn you Netflix!!

How is there no Muppet love in this thread?

We just watched the new Muppet film with our kids, the one with Jason Segel. It was really well done, with many "hat tips" to the old show/movies.

My kids enjoyed 8 below, but I will forever be scarred by the horror movie scene they slipped in with the walrus. That was messed up.
