"Hey Billy ... what's the matter son?"

"Well gosh Mister, ever since mother went in for those heroin cough drops, all she ever does is sit around her room. She never cooks any more or cleans ... pop is gonna be real cross"

"That's ok Billy, we've got the fix for ya! Cocaine"

"Cocaine?"

"That's right ... cocaine! ... give your mother two of these cocaine drops and she'll be back in the kitchen where she belongs! In fact, we gave that strung out junkie two of them earlier and she's been in the kitchen all day cooking up bunches. It's meatloaf for dinner tonight Billy!"

"Meatloaf?! ... aww shucks mister, mother's meatloaf is terrible!"

"Well cocaine can't fix everything Billy ... just most things!"

Cocaine is still available and used by physicians. I work with one who uses cocaine regularly as a topical anesthetic.

When Mom was pregnant with me, they prescribed a beer a day for her as she was "too skinny". I love beer. Coincidence?

When my mom was pumping out kids in the 60's the doctors would tell her that smoking was encouraged because it calmed the nerves and made life easier on her husband.

Back in the 1800's and early 19 hundreds doctors would help woman with their hysteria with various sex toys.

The treatment of choice for syphilis used to be mercury, which of course drove Ivan the Terrible insane.
