Those sources also tell me the 5 teams in mix for Kevin Hayes that talk to him today are: Colorado, Nashville, #Bruins, Pittsburgh, & NYR.

Boomer on the Fan was saying that he was told Hayes wants to play in the USA and on a contending team. My bet is Boston is they can find the cap room if not the Avs a good bet. Also wants to play in the NHL this year which is why I guess e didn't sign with the Hawks

Well then good luck to him with that, he sounds like another Tim Erixon spoiled brat type. Maybe it is a good thing if the Flames are not in the running.

Wanting to play on a good team doesn't make him a spoiled brat. He's a UFA, he should go where he wants to go, no one should hold it against him... Except Hawks fans.

Well that is another whole can of worms the NHL has gotten wrong. This guy should have remained Hawks property until he was UFA age eligible, I think it is garbage these guys can just walk after 4 years or whatever it is. In the end it doesn't really matter, Hayes has a small chance imo to be a top 6 player but is more likely going to be a 3rd line/4th line role player. It would have been nice to add him just in case I am wrong but not a big deal if he lands elsewhere.

Not really surprised. Never bought he was interested in Calgary, or Florida, just because of family/friends. I would guess he'll end up with one of the Bruins, Pens, or NYR. Probably Pens or NYR.

Then why the hell didn't he sign with the Hawks? Contending teams don't have the room to put a rookie straight out of college into the lineup, but at least he would have a chance to be an injury call up or work his way into the lineup. Quite frankly, the more I hear about this kid the less I like him. Doesn't seem like a smart guy to me.

i dunno, i absolutely hold it against players that show zero loyalty to a team that invested a draft pick on them. I get that most of the time they are looking for the most opportune place that gets them a fast track to a decent depth chart position, but i'm all for prospects, whichever development path taken, having to prove themselves to earn a spot.

A player doesn't have an obligation to sign with a team just because they drafted him anymore than a team has an obligation to show 'loyalty' and sign every pick they drafted.

I have no problem with the way you feel, just as long as you felt the same way when Knight did not want to sign with Florida and ended up with the flames.

Because not every contending team has the same depth as the Hawks.
Hayes' good friend Pirri and his brother Jimmy wasn't given much of a chance to break into Chicago's line up.

i get that. All drafted players have this alternative (ie. wait out the years till they are UFA).
Just my opinion of course, but don't like when any prospect goes this route (erixon a prime non-NCAA example).

too bad, I hoped he'd sign for the Flames. Then again, kudos to him for wanting to go to a contender and win something. I have more respect for someone like that than, say, Justin Schultz who showed a great franchise the middle finger just to sign with the worst team in the league.

Well Pirri is a C/LW and Jimmy is a poor man's Kevin, but a little farther along. Depth aside, I don't see a legitimate reason why he wouldn't have signed with the Hawks and see where things go. You're telling me he couldn't outplay Ben Smith for a 4th line spot? It's not like he'll get a much better option with another contending team. Maybe Boston, that's it.

The NHL gets to negotiate the CBA, not write it unilaterally.
