Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really like the Sean Monahan celebration as it symbolizes a new generation of Flames hockey. It can always be changed out for a Gaudreau or Bennett celebration later, but for now Monahan is it!

Okay, I apologize for being a dick in the previous post, so here is an honest critique of your logo work.

The space you are designing a logo for is a long horizontal space, and you have presented a series of square logos, failing to use most of the space. As well, the majority of your logo becomes unreadable when it is scaled down to the size of presentation (240x125). This is a failing of the current logo as well, probably a motivator for a new logo.

On to player outlines, the Monahan image is terrible. It looks like he's got one really short leg, so unless you are going for a pirate theme, a guy with a short leg doesn't look good. Unless you have the photo to get what he's doing, the whole outline is going to be lost on those unfamiliar with the original image. McGrattan? Well no comment. On to the outline images you selected, outside of the MLB logo, which is a classic, the other ones have aged. The NBA logo features a player in short shorts, that haven't been in use since the 80's. The NHLPA logo is a bad layering of a player on tube skates, not seen since the 70's. Those could use an update themselves. Love the Air Jordan logo, though. Classic! Skylines do age quickly, and could require immediate updates. Some of the treatments shown are very cool, but as new buildings pop up it does make the graphic look dated. Just something to guard against IMO.

I stand corrected.
Thanks for the constructive feedback.

I don't love the 'Grats either, I was just asked for it so I'm providing it.

The NHLPA have updated their logo:

but those were more examples of how player silhouettes have been used and are well loved. If you don't like those logos selected, that's fine. But the majority of the world does. They could update, and maybe the NBA will give him longer shorts; but not likely as people are looking for a silhouette that speaks to the game and the history of the game and not exactly how the players look today. If they did, the early 90's iteration would have had a sweet flat to-- wait... I retract that, as it'd have been awesome:

As far as scaling, I have checked that. I've put up a few screenshots, but they've all been scaled down. I also have been attaching a much smaller iteration to all of the recent logos to show how the concept can be scaled down.

But here's 100%:

And the scaled down version (blurry, as I had to enlarge it to fit and I couldn't be bothered to export at a higher resolution):

So they definitely work and are quite legible. 'Unofficial Calgary Flames Community' isn't meant to be immediately apparent, more of a design touch. What should be apparent are the bold classic Flames colours, "Calgarypuck", and the primary image.

Monahan having a peg-leg is good criticism, as it tells me that the tiny stroke I added to emphasize a raised knee is not apparent.

Getting tired of the recycled roundel logo ideas that just don't look any better with each following version. Let's put it away until voting time. Honestly, seen enough.

Speaking of high horses, who elected you chief of CP?

This cowboy ain't gonna have none o' that! This is my land too.

The idea has gone about as far as it can. I'm saying leave it be until the vote. It's made it's run. Thanks for taking offense for no reason at all, though.

So working on a way to improve on a design I like is bothering you?

Were you born an unbearable pretentious jerk, or did you work towards that?

I don't understand why some many are getting upset over a posters opinion. Ignore the poster if it gets you that mad.

Probably cause the opinions are being given in a rude way, towards posters who are taking their free time to try and build something for the community and get nothing back in return.
A little appreciation for the efforts shouldn't be too much to ask.

Personally I don't get the love for the speech bubbles. I associate speech bubbles with graphic novels. We are a message forum not a comic book club.

It is obvious that some of us really love this forum, as demonstrated by the heightened tensions. The variety and level of creativity on display has been impressive. At this point most of us have a couple logos we like and probably a couple we don't like. What ever ends up being the new logo I am sure we will learn to cope with it.

Personally I am becoming a little weary of the wait, and hope Bingo makes his (not ours) decision soon.

Said poster has given his honest critique of work being done. To have everyone saying your efforts look great would be a disservice to the creators. If you can't stand negitive comments on your work then you probably shouldn't be doing it.

Mine haven't recieved alot of thanks for the effort I made but you don't see me crying the blues. If people don't like it, it could be a sign that my efforts are not up to par with the others here and i'm totaly fine with that.

Weary of the wait? Didn't Bingo himself say that he is giving people till the end of August for people to get their ideas in and submitted?

No one here is asking people to 'give us praise or keep quiet'. Please give us more respect than that. What I'm trying to quell is this becoming a negative thread of bashing others ideas.

We have pages and pages and pages of people bouncing ideas off each other and building cool designs. It was a positive and fun atmosphere.

Constructive criticism is fantastic, and everyone here had responded amazingly well to it. 'That sucks' and discouraging people from posting isn't what we should be promoting. Let's keep this a fun thread, if your here to bash someone's ideas and efforts please keep your opinions to yourself. We don't want people giving up efforts because they don't feel appreciated or fear getting bashed.
