you'd think she would pick a different name from Kesha.
Her real name is Kiesa. I dont know why she added the Z but its pronounced the same. I went to high school with her. She always played music but i seem to remember it being more folky. I like the two new songs though. Awesome to see her doing so well. Her brother also directed hideaway.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I hate that Hideaway song. All I can focus on is how many times she just nasally sings "Ohhh. Ahhh. Ahhh. Ohhh." It totally detracts from anything decent about the song for me.
The Dzeko and Torres remix of this song is massive.

lol not every song is for everyone. You're not crazy.
The whole video all I could do was think of an early 90's version of the Simpsons boy band episode.
It really is such a shame because she can sing:
Ditch the gimics girl and use that voice!

A lot of work went into the song, she's clearly talented and pays attention to the finer parts of songwriting. She probably spent months fine tuning every part and practiced the dance a few thousand times which is visible in how well she performed. I don't like the genre and found the song pretty good considering I like metal bands most of the time.

It's not gimmickry. It's an earnest and modern take on old genre of music. That you don't appreciate that early 90s dance (which in interviews, is what her mother played for her) is simply a matter of taste. It doesn't take away from the skill involved or how well executed the song is. That it's a hit now also means it's catchy and appeals to a great deal of people.
The acoustic version is pretty dark...
But I like this one. That bassline is so catchy. I've got to learn it.
Kiesza is a friend of mine and I actually produced her first album a few years back (it was more on the folkey, singer-songwriter vibe). I have to say that she is the real deal. She is legitimately a great singer (those tv performance vocals while dancing are live which is rarely done these days). She can also write great songs in minutes and in many different styles. Very cool for sure to see a Calgary artist get to this level and given her skill set I see a long career for her, not a one hit wonder.

No kidding, I nailed it the first time I heard it - like as if I was some sort of music/audiophile for what most consider awful music
At first I thought it was an old school song I used to like..., catchy, do I know this? I like this... why, is it because I liked it in high school? No, it's new?? but it's making me feel nostalgic, it's really got a early 90's dance vibe to it... Am I at Coconut Joes or the Fox? It made me feel like I was listening to the Real McCoy, or something that would make an MC Mario/Chris Sheppard Pirate Radio tape...
Saw the video - confirmed it was just a nod to some classics.
That's right, I love 90's dance music!
And most others, but that's where it started.
