It didn't work out very well when they tried that in the AHL last season. A lot of people were blaming that for his poor production.

Was about to say this. We tried, it didn't work too well. Some wingers aren't meant to be converted to the other side.

Here is some perspective using SebC's NHLE chart:
Year 1: 12
Year 2: 17
Year 3: 25
Year 4: 44

Spoiler!

If there is a need to convert someone to the right side, I would imagine Glencross would be tried there. It seems he plays both wings fairly well IIRC. Hudler too.

Not sure where he'd fit:

Raymond - Backlund - Hudler
Glencross - Monahan - Jones
Byron - Stajan - Colborne
Bollig - Bouma - McGrat/Wolf

Although, it wouldn't be that daunting of a task to beat Jones or Byron for a job and send them packing to Andironack.

A lot of those articles say he is looking for a team where he could get regular nhl ice time. We are kinda screwed in that case.

Not really. We have one of the easiest rosters to crack in the NHL.

IIRC, Sven played both wings in Portland at times and even a little center. I'm sure he's most comfortable at LW, but who knows he might figure it out?

What I meant is he will likely start in the minors since Burke and Treliving have said that they prefer players to start in the minors and get extra seasoning etc.

If he has an issue with starting in the minors (very good chance both his BC line mates start there as well), then he really should take another look at things.

The best road isn't always a fast track into the NHL. Look at Sven. He produced well early but in such a small sample size he felt a degree of entitlement at development camp the next year. Hayes' situation would be different if he landed here. He would be starting from camp and he would have to earn a spot rather than be an emergency call up like Sven was.

Can teams offer him a one way deal vs a two way deal? If so, that may play a factor. I think it is a standard contract of some sort that can't be deviated from. Any insight? Apologies if it was explained earlier. I haven't read the whole thread.

He can only sign an entry level contract, and all entry level contracts are two-way.

In Calgary, Flames GM Brad Treliving is carefully toeing the line between proclaiming his team is in the running for Hayes and picking up a tampering fine. ”I've heard that natural assumption for a while,” Treliving said of the possibility of reuniting Hayes with his BC linemates Johnny Gaudreau and Bill Arnold in Calgary. “I see where people would make the connection. But at this point, we can’t talk about it.”
Quote:
And it's not just the chance to play with friendly faces that makes the Flames the leading contender to land Hayes. It's opportunity. If the lack of a quick path to the NHL is what killed Chicago's chances to sign Hayes, then Calgary's whisper of depth on the right side makes them the front runner. After Jiri Hudler, the Flames are sending out Joe Colborne, David Jones and Brian McGrattan to man the starboard side. That's one of the weakest groups in the league. There are no guarantees that Hayes beats out any of them in camp, but he has to like his odds.
Quote:
And Calgary is not his only option. Mark Divver of the Providence Journal lists the Avalanche, Rangers, Bruins and Coyotes as the other clubs that are interested in adding the big winger.

In 2 hours he'll be a Flame and then we can move on. Camp can't come soon enough.

It's 10:00pm... what's the news Sureloss?

;-)

I hope we sign him, but I won't be heartbroken if we don't. He definitely had inflated totals thanks to Johnny Hockey.
