Chicago is do deep, Hayes doesn't even want to play for them, great example.
Pronman does know his stuff, but he has obvious biases.

Cool to see Bennett at 3, but Johnny not making the top 40 is a bit of a head scratcher.
Lets put it this way, if you could only have one of Bennett or Gaudreau as a Flames prospect who would you choose?
It's Johnny Gaudreau for me.

The answer to that question is in poll #1 of the prospect ranking threads.
As for me, I choose Bennett.

Same. I was actually surprised that Gaudreau took that one.

One spot ahead of Vancouver, apparently.
(I don't know why he thinks our 2 prospect pools are even comparable).
Last season he ranked the Flames 10th.

Vancouver's prospect is really one that comes down to how much you like 3 key guys that to some extent generate an even wider variety of opinions than normal
Bo Horvat
Hunter Shinkaruk
Jake Virtanen
Horvat is a sure-fire NHLer but some question if he is more than a 3rd liner. Hunter/Jake the opinions range from them being top line scorers to complete busts.
So how you feel about those 3 probably defines where you put the Canucks.,
In either case though I don't think they have nearly the depth Calgary does. And I take Bennett over any prospect the Nucks have by a far margin.

I think it's odd because usually prospects like Horvat and Virtanen are not ranked well by Pronman. Usually they get the Nick Ritchie treatment.
I don't see any prospects with 1st line upside on the Canucks, which is what Pronman has valued in the past.

Really? I'd peg Hunter as a classic "First Line or Bust" player.
I could also see Virtanen as a first or second liner - his speed and shot are top end.
But, I agree that neither Horvat nor McCann are first line material (I see their upside as quality shut-down centremen).

Gaudreau just had the most dominant NCAA season in 20 years and Bennett was the 2nd best draft eligible player in the OHL last season. How are you possibly surprised that Johnny won that vote?

Bennett is the highest drafted player by Calgary ever. And doesn't have the same size/strength issues that Gaudreau has. I was kind of surprised that Gaudreau got the nod as well. He's one of our best prospects and has passed Baertschi but Bennett is the first player Calgary has drafted that could've gone top 3 in a draft. I don't think you can fault anyone for believing either guy is our top prospect.

One of the things about Pronman is that he readily answers questions over on HF about his rankings. He isn't arrogant at all (unlike certain recent Oiler hires) - listens to objections and states his opinion.
I think he's got some funky rankings but it his POV and he's willing to talk about it. I respect that.

The fact that Pronman had Kabanov at #4 at any point in time pretty much destroys all his credibility IMO.

He tends to rank guys based on ceiling more so then anything else. Kabanov is one of those guys that has/had all the tools, just can't seem to put them all together.

That would not explain his Gaudreau ranking.

It is a little weird because, besides stick handling, Kabanov wasn't really good at anything.

I realize that, just pointing out that guys that size need to put in extra work
St.Louis didnt look like that at 21, he was cut by an NHL team at 25, then he started to really put the work in

I'm not denying that Gaudreau has work to do long term in terms of bulking up a bit, but no 21 year old hockey player has St. Louis body or anything close.
Just like any other 21 year old, he has aspects of his game he needs to work on, but I'm glad nobody has to teach him how to think the game or handle to puck.

If you go back almost every fan and media member has had some pretty dumb opinions.
