A natural r/w is huge, but like I said unless it's for family reasons (Boston/Florida) then stay in the East. Part of his "family" was growing in college at BC with his mates. Maybe he feels he wouldn't break into the NHL with either/both. Whatever. The teddy bear drop happened past spring. Look for a good opportunity and fight tooth and nail to get it. I'd see the opportunity to be teammates with Gaudreau and/or Arnold at either level to be an incentive.

But a little birdy told me that Hayes is either a Ranger or a Panther on Friday. The Flames and his agent had some talks but he does not want to play in the West.

If true he must be something special, not only does he snub his drafted team now he's too good for half the league.

Yep, it's an orange julius rumor, I totally own up to that. A guy I golf with is a friend of the Hayes family and we got to talking. Just thought it would generate some good conversation to pass on what I've been told. Hayes had interest from lots of teams but Western teams were told "zero percent" chance Kevin would leave the Eastern seaboard.
That's all I know. Take it with a grain of salt.

Draft Pick

If teams have legitimately not talked to his Hayes or his agent, the most logical thought is that the player himself does not yet know where he is signing. Teams will make offers, he will get a feel for what various organizations are all about, how they run things, where they see him fitting in, some may even want to fly him out to their city. It doesn't make sense to me that he would already know where he's gonna play yet unless teams have tampered in pre-negotiations. That's why I think the Flames have a good shot, 100% you know Johnny and Arnold have talked to him about Calgary, as his brother would of about Florida. I also think Boston has a good shot because of his familiarity with the area, but really nothing would surprise me due to the reasons I stated.

Honestly if Chicago is really content with the 2nd round compensation pick, they may have already given Hayes Agent permission to talk to teams. Those kind of good will moves are important for a GMs image in the hockey community.

I believe a 2nd in the 2015 draft could easily pan out to being a better player than Hayes. Chicago will likely need that pick and better player 4 years from now over the current Kevin Hayes. They came out ahead IMO.

The real info I'm following is the budding bromance between Hayes and Gaudreau. Makes one think he would sign here. We will find out in a couple of days. If he signs elsewhere, awesome.
|
What is this bromance you speak of? Tweets from Hayes or something?

If I recall correctly someone said they over heard someone say something about a trade/NHL rumour while they were in line at orange julius therefore any rumour that has no credibility to it is considered an "orange julius rumour"

Here you go (from way back in 2006, regarding Pronger's demand to leave Stinkville)...

I'm not sold on Hayes but a late 2nd round pick will never "easily pan out" to be better than anyone. For every Backes or Dubinsky there's about 5 guys who will go on to do nothing of note. The fact that Hayes NHL potential isn't completely 0 at this point would put him in the upper echelon of 2nd round draft picks.
Of course picking Duncan Keith with the 54th pick worked out okay for the Hawks though. I would say very confidently that the Hawks would have rather signed Hayes than grab this compensation pick, in any case they wont see it as the end of the world though.

Boston makes zero sense to me as they are a stacked team an a good prospect foundation like Chicago. But, who knows what's going through these guys' heads. Would seem like the same s###, different pile scenerio to me except closer to mommy ?

Boston has one of the weakest depth at RW in the league.
Loui Ericksson (if they move him back from LW) and Reilly Smith are the only legitimate NHLers they have for RW. The rest are AHL tweeners (Jordan Caron, Matt Fraser, Jared Knight etc.) The only other option they have is an 18 year old David Pastrnak.

He did say could be, which i agree with. Imo hayes is worth the shot because he is found money. That being said, i don't hold much hope in him becoming anything. I'm not completely sold on him. If signing meant he would be are 50th contract then i probably wouldn't be interested.

For those planning on taking tomorrow off for Kevin Hayes watch, don't bother.
The CBA says the Hawks have his rights up to and including August 15th. Therefore the earliest he can sign is August 16th.

So is sportsnet doing an "Summer Days of Hayes" or is it still TSN?
