What wastedyouth said, and also some C are going to have to move to RW. I honestly think that this is going to end up happening with Arnold who will become a middle 6 RW. It's not hard for a C to move to W.

Why would a player not want to play in the West? It's best.

Where does Knight slot in? You could pull Granlund and Reinhart from the list and throw them on the wing, but Knight will still be in tough to get anything more than 6-8 mins a night on the 4th line.
|
Knight was always going to be a bottom 6 player. He'd be fine centering a 4th line. Hopefully the Flames end up being a team that rolls four good lines so that the 4th line plays more like 10 minutes a night instead of 6-8.

But a little birdy told me that Hayes is either a Ranger or a Panther on Friday. The Flames and his agent had some talks but he does not want to play in the West.
|
That's OK, apparently we are picking up Malone instead so no room for the bum on this team anyhow.

I'd put my money on them.
Hayes and Kreider were both with BC in 2010/11 and 2011/12 as well, so there's a connection.

Ya they likely won't make playoffs this year but they have a young core and a lot of talented young NHLers and prospects. I don't see how you can look at that and say they are going nowhere. They are actually set up pretty well. Bring in a solid GM and he has a lot to work with.

I can't comment on the veracity of the information and maybe I'm missing something, but wouldn't the Flames talking to his agent be tampering? Did the Hawks give permission for teams to talk to him?

I would say 90% of people would disagree with you, Jets are just somewhere on the 10-12 in the west treadmill and will likely stay there

Officially, yes.
But if you believe agents and teams don't talk prior to the player becoming a free agent, I have some land I'd like to sell you.

Permissions can be granted of course. But the accuracy of Orange Julius hearsay is being questioned. Personally I don't really care about Hayes signing in CGY as much anymore as he would be yet another LH RW/C in the stable. But I feel the validity of the post is leaning towards purple monkey dishwasher land. By no fault of the poster of course as he is probably the eighth pigeon to carry the info.
The real info I'm following is the budding bromance between Hayes and Gaudreau. Makes one think he would sign here. We will find out in a couple of days. If he signs elsewhere, awesome.

Hard to say. Depends how players like Schiefle, Trouba, Morrisey, Ehlers, Petan etc develop. Kane should still get better. Bogosian should still get better. Ladd, Byfuglien, Enstrom, Wheeler, Little are all under 30 still.

Therein lies the rub. The Jets are going nowhere under their current philosophy. Of course that might change with new management, but as it stands, Winnipeg is only two steps ahead of Edmonton on the same treadmill.
That said, Trying to sign Hayes (non-NHL player, no need to move another asset) would be a typical Cheveldayoff move. Closest thing to making a splash that franchise would have made since coming to Manitoba.

I agree but they have a lot of nice pieces moving forward. That would be a pretty nice team to inherit when they inevitably do fire Chevledayoff.

Is anyone even clear what the tampering rules are in the new CBA? Things have changed since 2009 when the Leafs got fined. What with the negotiating window this FA season, for example.

I think if their numb nut GM isn't canned soon they will be moved. Actually they probably will be moved anyway before the end of time because the place is a hole. And they suck. That may be somewhat remedied with bandaid fixes and moreso with a new GM but at the end of the day, a hole is a hole.

Well then, I don't want a ##### foot who doesn't want to play in the west either. Johnny could have held out for the same reason and is rather diminutive from what I've seen and heard.
Maybe it's for family reasons, etc though. Each guy is different that way. If so, i guess I can understand, but shouldn't he sign where he has a best shot to make the team and cash in? Sure we have prospects looking to do the same, but so does every team. I'm not all stoked for him coming here or upset if he doesn't.

Like others have alluded to, I'd be happy to have him as a RW prospect, but not gonna lose sleep over the whole thing. If the East is better for him I can respect that if family is most important. Otherwise, stay the F out of here. In the prior scenario, stay the eff out of west town, especially as a big higher skilled RW. He could flourish here consisidering our depth there/guys who could slot in there.
A natural r/w is huge, but like I said unless it's for family reasons (Boston/Florida) then stay in the East. Part of his "family" was growing in college at BC with his mates. Maybe he feels he wouldn't break into the NHL with either/both. Whatever. The teddy bear drop happened past spring. Look for a good opportunity and fight tooth and nail to get it. I'd see the opportunity to be teammates with Gaudreau and/or Arnold at either level to be an incentive.
