The best part is that everybody saw this coming except for the Jays organization. I said a week before the deadline that the worst thing they could do is stand pat, and that's exactly what they did.

If there is no room to add salary then this thing needs to be blown up and started over again using younger, cheaper players. They could have had a head start on doing that by dealing some guys this year.

Honestly it wasn't the deadline IMO, it was the offseason.

They needed to add a pitcher from then and couldn't get it done. Looking back on this season that is the true time. Even when they went on their run you knew that the pitching staff wouldn't be able to hold up for 162 games.

The may have been able to survive it if the bats stayed hot (and healthy) but the team relies so much on home runs that you could see that wasn't going to hold up either.

Would help too if Dickie was even 1/2 of what he was in New York. Imagine where this team would be if they didn't have Stroman.

I think it was the previous offseason...

A) Keeping Arencebia
B) Because of A) trading D'Arnaud for a knuckleballer
C) Not getting Yu Darvish
D) Not getting a true 2nd baseman
E) The Florida trade
F) Getting fans hopes up

I think going into 2013 it was clear they needed a 2B and a 3B if Bautista isn't playing 3B cause Lawrie can only cover one of these positions. There were rumors for Utley but perhaps the price was too high. If Bautista plays 3B then they need a RF.

Having obtained Buehrle and Johnson while giving up youth, was it really necessary to get another pitcher? I don't think so but if the answer is yes.. you have to get that pitcher by FA. You can't trade MORE youth to get another pitcher. Especially a weird middle aged knuckleballer.

Darvish was the option but an expensive one. But which is more expensive? Money or prospects?

Have said all this, they still have never gotten a 2B.

This team would be fine if Dickey and the bullpen weren't brutal

Add 3-4 wins and we are in the wild card with EE coming back.

Really can't ask for much more.

SP as a ? mark has actually been fine minus Dickey. The Bullpen is the biggest disapointment

Dickey with only 2 runs over 6 innings....and the Blue Jays have 0 runs to show for it. Hard to blame RA for that.

Broken record time:If AA/Rogers whoever would've got some decent bench bats to help with injuries, and just as general bench depth, this team would have a couple more wins at least since the trade deadline.

Again, the team's payroll is 140 million. If they can't find a bench with that salary then AA's failed.

The team you are watching right now only have a 90 million payroll and Cano and King Felix eat up 57 million of that!

Welp. All I asked for in April was meaningful baseball in August this season. I guess I got that. As I've been saying for 2 decades.. there's always next year

Pretty shocking series by the Jays.

That said, the M's are a pretty good team. That pitching staff is outstanding. They got the Canadian stud Paxton back in the rotation now too. Could do some damage.

Well at least it was competitive baseball tonight.
It was pretty maddening sitting in the stands and knowing pretty much exactly how bad things would unfold because they have been all year.

Just frustrating and disheartening to watch such piss poor baseball

I'm still holding out hope they will be hanging around come September. I know "easy" schedule means nothing for the Jays, but they have a nice homestand at the end of the month.
They really blew this series, but they took 2 of 3 from the tigers before that (who are struggling, but wins against that starting rotation have to be considered a plus).
With Edwin back they might get going on a streak again. I'm trying to be a little blindly optimistic as this is the closest they have been (and may be in the future) in a long time.
Its been a rollercoaster season.

Someone on Twitter said a couple nights ago the Jays are playing beer league baseball.

Boneheaded plays, coupled with guys that simply can't bring it. Haven't really paid much attention to them this year but it was evident in the Seattle series that they simply aren't focused enough to compete.

The other thing, the team has what? $140 million dollar payroll? And Kawasaki is your everyday 2nd basemen or shortshop? He's a likable guy, but kind of a weak link the lineup. Especially a $140 million dollar lineup.

Doesn't anyone remember the 1998 team? Thy finished 88-74 4 games behind the Red Sox for the wildcard. They were playing meaningful games into September with a pitching rotation of Clemens, Hentgen, Williams, Carpenter and a young Halliday (who nearly threw a no-hitter on the last day). The batters were Delgado, Green, Stewart, Cruz Jr. and Jose Canseco!

If that team had snuck in, they could have done some damage with that pitching staff. They were miles better then this team today.

They also finished 4 games behind the Yankees in 2000 but that seemed closer than it really was.
