For what it's worth, "real" Chinese food, ie: the stuff that's not catered to western tastes and is only in the chinese menus doesn't leave you feeling sick or unhealthy afterward.

It's can be sophisticated and also rustic but very foreign to western cuisine. That said, I'm not a fan overall and the taste takes getting used to. I still prefer Ginger Beef Express!

I get what you mean by fusion or modernized traditional Chinese food though. There are a lot of things they could do to make some awesome dishes but you never see it in this city.

Go to Tea Pot in the North West. It's got really good variations and urban take on a lot of traditional dishes.

Not saying anything bad about Golden Inn either OP. My dad and your dad are close actually, and he still goes there often. haha. I like the traditional meals myself, and don't order greasy stuff unless it's a 2am run... haha.

T. Pot is decent. They have basically filtered out from authentic Chinese cuisine what most Westerners would find unpalatable. I don't think they have created anything new though or adapted food items to Western tastes. One particular thing they do that is bad in my opinion, is dousing the crispy noodles with a lot of sauce, making it a mushy glob after a few minutes.

Not to derail from Golden Inn. But if GoFlamesGo wants members for a new menu focus group, count me in!

Yeah I frequent Chinatown regularly for lunch and could use another place to add to our rotation, especially with MBA dropping the ball on quality and Gee Gong being closed permanently after the flood. My current Chinatown rotation includes:

- Chong Fat (amazing salt and pepper pork chops and cuttlefish balls)
- Happy Valley (solid chicken and duck noodle soup)
- Pho Hoai (Their sate is best in town IMO)
- Calgary Court (though super infrequent now post-flood. Their prices sky-rocketed more than anyone in that area)
- Ho Wan (dirt cheap fried noodles)

If you serve good fried noodles and get some good congee going, I'll be in there like white on rice... or is that Asian on rice...? Yeah that's it.

imo, it might be difficult to have fusion and traditional at the same time since the two kind of conflict. there might be a market for it, but makes more sense to do one thing well instead of expanding when the two markets aren't really aligned. mission and vision alignment haha (CMA case reference here)
