I've even listened to IGN podcasts where they collectively rag on him for that review, but it was his review and his opinion. I prefer things to be that way. It's the same with Colin Moriarty and his enjoyment of indie games. I enjoy indie games but I don't love them - so when he gives something an 8.5, I know it's probably more of a 7.5 in my books.

I also like how they run most of the Playstation stuff but have no problems with call them out on terrible moves the company makes. Like them calling out how Sony has sent games "out to die" in the past with little market or support. Or why they have a new segment now mocking the lack of ability to change your PSN name.
Like I said, I don't frequent Gamespot much these days but I'll maybe check it out a bit more. But if Erick Estrada is right and their marketing guy can basically meddle or rules over their editorial department . . . that sounds terrible. No idea how everybody doesn't end up being a shill if the guys taking ad money have control over you and your work - and can fire you (or the Editorial Director!) for not towing the marketing line.

Madden NFL 15 won't be playable early unless you pay for EA Access
You'll only be able to play Madden NFL 15 before its Aug. 26 launch if you own an Xbox One and subscribe to EA Access. There will be no publicly available demo, a representative for publisher Electronic Arts confirmed to Polygon today.
That bucks a trend nearly a decade long. EA has released a downloadable demo on consoles for every Madden title since Madden NFL 06 in 2005, although that game's trial came out shortly after the title itself launched alongside the Xbox 360. A playable Madden demo is traditionally available approximately two weeks prior to release.
Asked to provide details on why there won't be a Madden 15 demo, the EA spokesperson declined to clarify. But it's worth noting that last month, EA announced an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service called EA Access.

I am guessing that will also mean no NHL 15 demo for PS4 users?

I never cared much for the demos. I signed up for Access today, and in lieu of a demo, either entire games or specific parts of games will become available 5 days prior to release. Unlike a demo, progress made in the preview will transfer to the main game upon launch.

I can't get Access to work. EA's servers are down. I'm really looking forward to trying it.

It's available through the store on your XB1. If you can't find it just search for "EA Access". You download the Hub app and once in the app can buy a month or year of Access. Once signed up, all "Vault" games are free in the store and all other EA titles have a 10% discount.
Interested to see how the whole
"play NHL 15 five days early" thing will work.

Only Madden 15 right now doesn't have a demo. A mod on the EA forum stated that demos and availability are going on a team by team basis. The Madden team decided not to do a demo. The other teams have yet to make a decision.

not fantastic but lets give it an 8?
Game will get 6 tops for average review on PC and the fanboy argument will be out the window. Glad you enjoy it though that is your opinion...I was just commenting on the post about Ryse getting poor scores because of "PS4 Fanboys" which is laughable

It makes sense why EA would want this...digital download=no chance of resale
I do prefer hard copies of games but will give it a whirl for $5 just to see how it works. I have noticed copies of Madden/Fifa popping up on kijiji today lol

Gamescom! I kinda want to visit it one day but the crowds scare the heck out of me.
Anyhow, initial news out of the Microsoft presser is that the new Tomb Raider is an "Xbox exclusive". The announcement is a bit of a mess though, there seems to be some confusion about whether it is a timed exclusive, forever exclusive, console exclusive, etc.
I guess it would depend upon what kind of cash Microsoft put up for it. I'm sure we'll find out more as we get closer to release.

Didn't they announce it for PS4 at E3...
Sounds like it is a XBox One Exclusive which is a pretty good win for them. Tomb Raider name still carries some weight, and the last one was critically acclaimed. (Although could just be timed exclusive so XBox gets it in 2015, PS4 in 2016)
Pretty cool looking Advanced Warfare XBox One Console with 1TB hard drive as well (I need to stop buying launch systems)

USB and DLNA support coming to Xbox One!
http://majornelson.com/2014/08/12/ki...t-coming-soon/
Quote:
Media Player – a new app will be available soon that enables users to play media files from either an attached USB device or from a network connected home media server that supports DLNA protocols. The preview version of the Media Player app will initially only support USB devices, with DLNA support coming soon. Xbox One will support more formats than Xbox 360, including support for dozens of new file formats like mpeg 2 TS, animated gifs and mkv which will be added by the end of the year. See below for additional file formats.
