I'd like to think that the "big money" games have a lot of resources and funds being directed to make the games good and thus reviewed well. As opposed to "just" being big money games.
As for Polygon taking Microsoft cash, they're more than happy to admit it outright. Everybody knows they're terrible at reviews. Their in-depth pieces are actually pretty good but they've since gutted those departments with layoffs.

Not quite the sweeping Sony bias you claim exists.

You forgot the GOW reviews and while the first was good the 2nd and 3rd games were overly repetitive and good not all time greats like IGN scored 2 in particular. There are far more higher sonly exclusive scores and Uncharted 3 is a 9.2 at best not a 10 lol.

I haven't really put much stock in Gamespot at all since their Gerstmann debacle. They caved into the advertiser pressure due to low game review scores and they fired their Editorial Director. Then a whole bunch of people left, it is why Giantbomb even exists.
And to be really honest, half the time I tried to get to Gamespot website, I ended up at Gamestop.

GOW 3 is ranked high everywhere...its one of the best games of all time and the series is the standard in the genre. Constantly copied by other games like Ryse which is beyond repetitive it takes one aspect from GOW and does it over and over the entire game
using GOW as an example of IGN being biased doesn't make much sense...their scores are about middle of the pack on those games, low 90s like the metacritic

That's not entirely true. Gertsmann was fired largely for being an insubordinate and not simply for the Kane and Lynch review. It's very seldom people in business always agree with company upper management and if you choose to go against their wishes you always get fired. It was known that as the industry grew and more money was at stake that advertising would want more of a say in the editorial process. It's simply not escapable when business grows and becomes money oriented. Jeff was against that and while you can't fault a guy for sticking to his guns you have to remain politically savvy rather than outright defiant if you want to remain employed. It wasn't just the low score that that angered management but how he went out of his way to trash the game to the point he was doing it on purpose.
Gamespot is still today considered the most professional of all game sites but I could never discount that as with other sites that reviewers are encouraged not to trash big budget games. That said it's inescapable unless you are joe blow in your basement reviewing games with no sponsors to satisfy.

IGN's reviews of all Sony exclusives are all consistently on the high side compared to Gamespot and other reviewers. That's not debateable really as you can look at the metacritic scores. IGN also has XBOX games reviewed higher than average but not to the extent in fact there are examples of Microsoft exclusives that have scored higher on Gamespot than IGN but never the other way regarding Sony big exclusives.

Hmmm, I don't recall much about him being insubordinate - do you have information about that? Unless you mean him giving the honest negative review in the face of management/marketing opposing desires . . . which is pretty much what people would want, no?
To the bolded part (just because it is easier) - isn't that why most site explicitly state that the editorial and marketing departments are separate and that there is a "chinese wall" between them. I can't imagine a decent site that allows it otherwise, especially with any attempt at being professional or reliable.
I don't really hit Gamepot at all to say if they are good or not, professional or not but isn't having marketing "having more of say" in the editorial process as you say pretty darn horrible? But then it again, maybe it speaks to the rise of independent voices on things like youtube. Exactly as you say, people in their basement reviewing games getting way more hits than many "mainstream" websites. Interesting times for sure.

just saying GOW was a bad example...All GOW games scored high most places IGN isnt even one of the higher scores
Same could be said about nintendo exclusives...maybe they just make good games?

There's always going to be a divide when reviews are treated as opinions rather than something mechanical. I don't really like reviews that get overly mathematical in their structure (X game was a 7, and Y game was a 9, so this is an 8). I totally understand why some want that, but for me it's more about finding a few reviewers that I relate to game-wise, and listening to their opinions.
IGN seems to be an easy target, but I find I almost always agree with the reviews. That being said, because I listen to the podcasts I know that there are pre-existing biases towards certain genres that you have to factor in. For example, Greg Miller's favourite games are 3rd person action games, so something like Uncharted 3 is right in his wheelhouse. I've even listened to IGN podcasts where they collectively rag on him for that review, but it was his review and his opinion. I prefer things to be that way. It's the same with Colin Moriarty and his enjoyment of indie games. I enjoy indie games but I don't love them - so when he gives something an 8.5, I know it's probably more of a 7.5 in my books.

I like gamerankings.com where you get an aggregate score to see reviews and 10 reviews are required to be considered reviewed, much less bias that way

xbox fanboys are the only people who think its a good game...it goes both ways
I guarantee it will be poorly received on the PC if its the same button mashing quick time game
Titanfall and Forza got great scores...because they are better games, has nothing to do with fanboys

No more demos for you!
http://www.polygon.com/2014/8/11/599...demo-ea-access
Madden NFL 15 won't be playable early unless you pay for EA Access
You'll only be able to play Madden NFL 15 before its Aug. 26 launch if you own an Xbox One and subscribe to EA Access. There will be no publicly available demo, a representative for publisher Electronic Arts confirmed to Polygon today.
That bucks a trend nearly a decade long. EA has released a downloadable demo on consoles for every Madden title since Madden NFL 06 in 2005, although that game's trial came out shortly after the title itself launched alongside the Xbox 360. A playable Madden demo is traditionally available approximately two weeks prior to release.
Asked to provide details on why there won't be a Madden 15 demo, the EA spokesperson declined to clarify. But it's worth noting that last month, EA announced an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service called EA Access.

I find the game to be more fun than most. It isn't a fantastic game by any stretch (visually it looks great) but yes it's a good game. The reviews of 3/10 I've seen are ridiculous....so to is a 9/10. It's a pretty solid 7-8/10 though. Not life changing, not life absorbing but fun. Then again I like a button masher every now and then (Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta etc).

I suspect they are (haven't played Titanfall), but I don't believe anyone in this thread claimed Ryse was some genre altering game. Though to be honest I don't much like Forza. Looks fantastic but I've never been a realistic racing fan.
