Makeup, directing, drama series, writing. Some may not like it, but it is a huge show that has a huge following that is fun to watch and well done. No, it's not True Detective, but they are very different styles of show.

I'm trying to get my wife to watch True Detective but she is refusing. I think it's because she's heard it was very dark and frightening with regard to the subject matter. Can anyone comment on the show from that respect? Is it pretty dark? Would someone that is not good with dark subject matter have problems with this show?

It has it's moments, but my wife is a tad squeamish with this sort of stuff and she watched it and liked it.

Do you consider Matthew McConaughey telling a potential suspect they should just kill themselves dark? It's pretty dark to be sure but it's so excellent that it still demands watching.

If the Emmy's were the World Cup, the best actor category would be the group of death.

There is no way the writing, directing, or overall quality of the show is in the same league as the actual Emmy nominees. I've watched every episode and consider it a guilty pleasure, nothing more

Like I said, different styles, but what The Walking Dead does, they do well. Agree to disagree. But, that's not what this thread is about...so back on topic.

Just finished the season. Bravo. Cable TV > 90% of Mainstream film.

Every one of those characters is a mess. Doesn't anyone in law enforcement have their $%^# together these days?

Wow, True Detective kind of got snubbed at the Emmys tonight. I pegged the series for a couple of wins, including Best Leading Male Actor and Best Drama Series.

Not that I wasn't pleased to see Breaking Bad essentially sweep in the major Drama categories, but I really thought TD would steal at least one of those awards. I wonder if trying to enter the Drama category over the Movie/Miniseries did them in a bit?

Agreed, although I thought Cranston would win best actor (with Harrelson and McConaughey splitting votes for lead actor). I'm not sure if they were necessarily snubbed though considering the competition. As I told my buddy dramatic television is probably at its zenith right now. There are numerous shows on right now that would've been considered the best show on the air only a few years ago.

I don't watch Mad Men or House of Cards, but it's easy to see why both shows are so acclaimed. They would have been the best at one time, but now they're fourth or fifth best imo.

If you want to speak of a show that's actually snubbed try something like Justified, it rarely receives any recognition, but like the rest is better than almost anything on the air during the days before cable television.

Absolutely agree. Such an incredibly underrated show that simply has the misfortune of airing at the same time as all these other fantastic series'.

I don't agree with Breaking Bad sweeping the awards given the final season wasn't anywhere near it's best and was good but not great. True Detective was superior from the acting down to storyline.

True Detective had a fantastic season, but Ozymandias is the best episode of television I have seen in my entire life. The only reason True Detective won for direction is because Breaking Bad did not submit Ozymandias.

I do find it odd that they submitted Fellina, because yes, Ozymandias destroyed Fellina in terms of directing. They might have just felt they couldn't beat that True Detective episode anyway so didn't bother. Or it was a bit of Gilligan ego.

They could have gone either way and I would have been happy. I was on board with True Detective since day one, and do agree that it's probably the best overall show on television right now (the writing is out of this world). Not sure if they submitted the best episode either, since episode four (I think) was probably the best.

I am definitely a Vince Gilligan guy, with The X-Files and Breaking Bad being my two favorite dramas. So him winning once again is not undeserved. I can't believe he's the same person that wrote Home Fries though...

So, not new news, but Colin Farrell has confirmed he will be in season 2.
