I guess Rockstar/Naughty Dog "could" have sat on the completed game for a year and not released it until the PS4 and Xbone came out (though they likely didn't have much information about console release dates at that point) to avoid "double dipping" with a remaster. But it seems kinda tough to expect them to do that unless you're hoping to spend the absolute least amount of money as possible. Let alone the tiny install base of the new consoles at launch - unless you wanted them to sit on the finished game for an additional year or two for increased adoption numbers.

They are businesses after all and you're asking them to sit on completed work and defer sales of 7 million units (for the Last of Us) and $2+ billion in revenue (for GTA V) for a year. And we're not talking super crappy beta versions either, this is for full complete games that reviewed very well.

Personally I don't mind, consumers can and will vote with their wallet and the market will dictate what works and what doesn't. Just like with GOTY editions.

I'm sure I have said it before but you guys are way more responsible than I will ever be.

If I get something "down the road when it is cheaper" it is likely for a second (or a digital) copy.

the funny thing is Halo has already been remastered once...its actually a remaster of a remaster

for the record I am fine with it, actually I like remasters...don't like it? don't buy it

I suppose star wars was good enough on VHS so there is no need for my bluray collection

Except those blu-rays aren't re-masterings as much as they are butcherings of the original films....but that's another story.

Yeah I will consider it as well and I don't consider these next gen-remakes cash grabs as they are full games updated to next gen standards typically with a DLC added. You don't have to buy them if you played them before but if you didn't it's a great opportunity and if you loved them last gen and want to play them again you get the opportunity to play a superior version. A cash grab IMO is $30 for a MGS demo. Still haven't played it and won't pay a penny for it until the full version hits retail.

So, I'm looking to buy an xbox One.
I feel silly for asking this question, because I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but is the kinect worth the extra $100?
Are there actually going to be any worthwhile games released that utilize it, or is going to be supporting rip-offs of wii sports for its entire existence?

Its probably gonna be supporting rip offs of Wii sports. Motion gaming is, and has always been, a gimmick IMO.

However, it does add a lot of capability with voice commands, many of which I now use regularly. If you plan to go all the way with integrating your home theatre and TV into it I would suggest having it. Otherwise it probably won't matter much.

If you are willing, you might be able to find a sensor for cheap on kijiji. I already see one up there for 80.

That's kind of what I thought. Right now, there's no real compelling reason to buy one. If one comes up down the road, there will probably be lots of used ones available.
I don't care too much about the whole "entertainment experience".
I just want to game with friends and pwn n00bs on COD and Titanfall.
Personally, I don't foresee any worthwhile kinect games coming ever. Especially not now that only a portion of xbox one users will even have it.

while I've only got one game that is exclusive to the kinect, I do find I like the voice commands aspect, so I like having it just for that alone. Playing my career mode on fifa and being able to ask for a pass instead of pressing a button is fun. Calling audible in madden by saying it I find enhances the experience.

I agree. Yelling at your teammate to cross the damn ball adds a bit a silly but fun aspect to the game. I've always talked to the game and now it can actually mean something or be useful. In fifa I also like the voice command substitution as you can do it on the fly without breaking the atmosphere by going to the pause menu. Though the "ref hearing" option was best left on the cutting room floor or at least defaulted to "off".

Motion gaming is a bit of a gimmick but the kids love it and watching them play that darn dancing game having the time of their lives justifies the Kinnect for me. Well and all the other stuff I use it for. I know it was mentioned that the entertainment stuff doesn't hold interest. It didn't for me either, but we decided to put the cable box etc through it for a week to see how we liked it. We never disconnected it and likely never will.

I'm sure some of the MGS super fans that played it over and over did but it doesn't change the fact that it's a cash grab.

No. Halo 2 is being remastered for the MC collection. Halo 1 was remastered already for 360. The collection will come with both.

I have no problem with remasters either. I re bought Tomb Raider. Don't think I will bother with TLOU though, not yet anyway.

How so? Upscaled to 1080p?

So Ryse is coming to PC, 4K too.

Already an amazing looking game winning Siggraph's award for best real time graphics. Would be pretty sweet at 4k, may double dip on PC at the right price.

Ryse looks amazing on XB1 so I'm interested to see how much better they can make it look on a high end PC. Fun game as well.

I'm not sure Crytek will last long enough to last the end of the week/month let alone release Ryse on PC. That place has been imploding and not paying employees for a while now. Though I hear Deep Silver might lend a hand.

Maybe they'll make it and they'll get a bit more cash to avoid shutting down. Here's to hoping.
