Not really shocked by Genie's play right now, this is what happens when you take a month off. The crowd is absolutely embarrassing too. If they have no intention of cheering Rogers they might as well start booing her to go all out.

Bagelled in 3 of her last 4 sets she has lost is, well, horrific. We'll find out a lot about how mentally tough Genie really is because this season could easily go off the rails now. Needed to get some matches in between Wimbledon and this. Between Wimbledon and the US Open she may play as few as 3 matches over two months. Yikes.

I'm sure she'll be in Cincinnati for the Western and Southern Open.

Worst thing to happen for Sportsnet. Ratings are going to plummet.

Well Genie is supposed to play the next two tournaments, but based off tonight wouldn't be slightly surprising to see her go out in her first match of each tournament (hence saying 3 matches between Wimbledon and the US). Her confidence must be pretty damaged right now with her last two matches.
Also cripples the buzz for the tournament in Montreal. Last year they had Canadians right until the end. Now they're all gone in two days and the biggest star had the worst loss. If Milos goes out tomorrow it goes from near all time high for Tennis Canada with Milos-Pospisil Final to all time low right here.

Slightly off topic:
Anyone knows where in Calgary I can pick up tennis apparels? The mint Federer polo looks sweet, but your friendly neighborhood Sport Chek won't carry it.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom, it was just a lack of match preparation while her opponent Rogers has been on a roll through the qualies. While Bouchard was out partying Rogers won 6 matches to get the a WTA Final in Austria (beating Suarrez Navarro and Errani along the way) and she beat Cornet in Washington last week. She also made the 3rd round at Wimbledon. As mentioned in my post above, tennis is about playing and rhythm. Between the two matches Bouchard played, Rogers played 10 matches. She played very well tonight, she got everything back and Bouchard made errors.

Great insight Girly I didn't know the history with Rogers. My wife and I are going to the U.S open I sure hope I get to see Milos or Genie play.

If Genie were a veteran player it'd be less concerning, but you talk about rhythm and that's the concern. If she loses again in the first round next week you obviously become concerned it will snowball. The schedule set up admittedly doesn't help, but she should have found a tournament to play. Realistically though outside the majors and the tournament she won, she only has an 11-12 record on the year. The consistency still isn't there yet. Doing well in majors is nice but she should be doing better in the lesser tournaments.
Rogers played well (and as mentioned the crowd sucked) but as we saw when Genie was fully engaged she controlled things. But in the bookend sets she just lost her confidence the second things didn't go her way. Terrible body language tonight.

I was watching the broadcast yesterday and Damian Cox of all people on the panel said "watch out for this Rogers kid, she's had an awful year but the last couple of weeks she's beaten some top players and she's played everyday (Sat, Sun, Mon) while Bouchard hasn't played since Wimbledon so watch out!"
So I went to the WTA site and looked up the stats. She's been successful lately and her live ranking after tonight win is now 86. Bouchard drops to #8.

Monfils pushed Joker to the limit (got within two points of winning the match), but Joker prevailed. Benneteau upsets Gulbis which I think is a better matchup for Milos (provided he gets by Sock).
