That was my first thought as well.
I think this is a good draft to go off of. With a few tweaks it could be the one.

Man... the lines and nets? I was hoping to avoid that cliche, plus I like simplicity...
The 'hockey rink' shape in the middle was done on purpose.
In all honesty, I believe that lines and the nets would a) make the logo too busy, and b) would be too small to even see on the logo given its likely future size and physical location on the website.

Agreed, a little more colour on there and it would be perfect. There are a lot of amazing ones up here and I applaud all of you for being creative enough to come up with these and your ability to actually make these. Great job everyone, Bingo you're going to have a hard time as some of these are amazing!

How about making the proportions of the negative space equal to a rink? 200:85 I believe. Might be a bit too canuck-y? Don't put lines and nets in, that would be lame.
Also, it looks pretty good, but can you make it "pop" a bit more????

This is the new front runner for me. The speech bubble idea combined with a puck/cp/hockey vibe is the kind of representative logo you want for a message board/fan community.
This logo is a little more "Flames" specific, while the other one has more of a general feel, but both work perfectly.

I like Muta's too, except would it be better if the CP was red and not gray?

Can you make the proportions more in line with actual NHL ice? It looks interesting though.

With it being grey, you've got a lot more options design wise if you're adapting the website to the logo (the same reason the grey speech bubble/puck works on the other one) and the flames at the bottom pop.

There's a reason I left it a charcoal grey, and that's to work with a lighter background for a new website re-design. It's neutral and would be easy on the eyes for all environment types. It's my first preference.
Nevertheless, I've done some others below if you want the red feel; I've also put in gradients for some contrast.

What if the stem of the "p" transitioned from the flame to a hockey stick? Then the flame would be the blade of the stick? Or I could be way out to lunch since I have 0.1% artistic ability.

I second this, the red + solid flame looks the best.

Biggest issue with red, in my opinion, is that the immediate association I make is with Canadian Pacific.

Here, I made these ones more proportionate, but I'm not sure I'm that much of a fan:

It is definitely much more recognizable as a rink now when compared to the original which looked more like an oval race track, as another poster commented.

Liked Split98 design but made a slight change to something from CP in the past. In the jersey design thread there was a shoulder patch that was liked by all and I think it has a good home for something like this.
Needs some work (I have no design tools or skills) but always liked that shoulder patch design and would like to see it used somewhere.

What about making it a proper rounded rectangle? (i.e. 4 curve seperated by 4 lines, instead of 2 curves seperated by 2 lines).
