The whole sharknado phenomenon strikes me as a bit too contrived. Seems obvious they were intentionally making something ridiculous to capture social media attention. On par with a staged YouTube video.

Any movie that can find a way to get Biz Markie, Mark McGrath, Kurt Angle, Judd Hirsch and Billy Ray Cyrus in it is going to be a winner. But seriously for such a remarkably dumb, poorly acted and poorly CGI'd movie, it had no business being as fun and entertaining as it was. It has zero replay value but to watch it once (ideally under the influence of something) is good fun.

for me, the magic of bad movies works only when the people involved had good intentions, but were foiled by lack of budget, experience or general competence.

whoever makes Sharknado and its Syfy kin clearly have no intention of making a legitimate film, so they are dull to me beyond the title. the staged Youtube video is a good example, would you be more amused by someone accidentally setting themselves on fire for real, or if you knew in advance that it was all planned out for viral purposes?

Ya that's why The Room is the peak of bad movies, because Mr. Wiseau honestly believed in it and wanted it to be good. It's also why the Oilers are so much fun to follow, because their management honestly believes they're good at their job and building a team the "right way". When someone fails so spectacularly with all the intentions to succeed it's much more entertaining

Flipped by and watched a scene where it seemed like the disembodied head of the Statue of Liberty was chasing coeds down the streets of NY. Pretty amazing.

bad CGI lacks the charm of poorly-made rubber monsters.

I can't believe I watched that. By the end, I was booing my TV at every bad line, and was yelling "SCIENCE" after every leap in logic.

Which, of course, made it much more enjoyable to watch.
