The more I see of video replay, the more I believe the "cure" is worse than the disease.

Wasn't that textbook for "not giving a lane" and hence he would be safe?

Replay is an absolutely joke in baseball.

The Jays have 4 games against the Astros, followed by 9 against some nasty opponents (O's Tigers and Mariners). 9 of the games of the next 11 after that are against easier teams (White and Red Sox and Rays). They need to be able to keep their head above water through the next 13, and then hopefully pick it up after that heading into September.

Just bought tickets for the game on the 12th against the M's. Excited to see the Jays live, will be first time since 1990.

Rumors are circulating that Lester has been traded to the A's.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/0...to-boston.html

"The Athletics have acquired Jon Lester from the Red Sox, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com (Twitter links). In what will be a blockbuster deal, Jonny Gomes and Yoenis Cespedes will head to Boston."

With the way the Rays are playing, I wouldn't put them in the easier teams category.

Let me get this straight, the A's, who have zero money, a stadium that backs up in sewage every other month, a payroll of what $60 million and minimal fan support can trade for Lester.

The super wealthy, free TV content having, big fan support (if they are playing well), great TV ratings due to a whole country watching "regional broadcasts" Blue Jays are scraping the bottom of the relief barrel because they "can't take on significant money"

What utter BS!!!

Billy Bean is going for it.. it might be his last hurrah.
AA is too busy thinking ahead, analyzing value, and trying not to ruin the team.

It's like me seeing the man of my dreams in front of me but I got daddy issues. Once I resolve those issues and like the guy, he's gone.

The A's sent big money back the other way and when all is said and done today are pretty close to even salary wise so it is not like they just added his salary.

Plus that trade is pretty close to the Jays sending EE or Melky back the other way for Lackey. (Both are better players but in terms of what the Jays have on the active roster that is the closest comparable).

Its interesting; same response on twitter for Cardinals: we could have gotten Cespedes! But...Cards don't have a Lester to trade to get Cespedes (or that they would want to trade). So same here, specific to this deal, do Blue Jays have anything to get either of these players, without creating a gaping hole somewhere else?

I don't think we see much from Jays today. They might make a minor trade or two, but that will be about it.

It's not. Sure it might be the closest equivalency in terms of talent but EE is signed for next year and has a club option for the following year (2 years 2 months of team control) and Melky is a FA after this season (2 months of team control). Cespedes has a year of team control after this season. The contracts are widely different.

Additionally Cespedes has a non-tender clause in his contract that says he can't be tendered after his contract expires (so no compensatory pick if he walks).

My big fear is that the Sox just resign Lester this offseason, extend Cespedas and thus turn the trade into Cespedes & competative balance pick for Gomes. That would suck for the ALE.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that it will always suck playing in the ALE with the Yankees and Red Sox.

This was supposed to be what, the least competitive ALE in years and the Jays' best chance to run away with the division? Oh look, best winning percentage in baseball is in the ALE.. AGAIN
