I heard from someone who worked with her, that during a particular meeting, someone spoke up and she didn't like what they said. So she slapped them.

I'm not siding with Wildrose here, but they're limited in options.

As for Redford's excuse that she didn't know, she had a reputation of running her office with an iron fist and being one of the most unpleasant persons to work for as it gets.

I very much doubt that she didn't know.

The PC's have to show some integrity and drag her in front of a very public commission.
I'm starting to wonder if she had a "I don't want to hear it" type situation with her handlers. She'd made her expectations clear, for example unfeathered access/use of the government plane, while wanting absolutely no details or excuses as to why an expectation wasn't met.

So her staff starts cutting corners, exploiting loopholes and just generally beating around the bush to avoid confrontation. Any potential legal repercussions were less feared then having to explain why there were other officials/employees on the plane?

It's honestly the only scenario I can think of where "I didn't know" makes any sense here. Her staff/handlers feared for their jobs so they bent over backwards to ensure they'd be meeting her travel expectations.

I am not a fan of Redford, but that seems insane. Unless the meeting was at a bar in University and what they said to her was particularly insulting.
I doubt any politician could keep that quiet.

I dont' see how Redford was smart.

1. Paid back the SA travel expenses way too late.
2. Used the two book budget and thought the taxpayers were too dumb to see through it.
3. Handed out millions in severance to her staff, smart?
4. Cutting education budget and bit the hands that fed her (the teachers union)
5. She was forced out because of a trip to SA, how smart was that?

She might be smart enough academically but she didn't have one ounce of street smart to run a government.

Apparently it was in house. The person I know worked in her campaign group. Take it with a grain of salt though. It's just hearsay.

Bottom line, Redford is a tw@t

That I can see as a possibility.
She comes back from a trip and complains endlessly that the plan was delayed because some jerks from Alberta Health had a meeting run late, and then they got on the plane and were talking loudly when she wanted to sleep.

Two days later, her staffers discover that they can prevent other people from getting on her plane by booking all the seats and then canceling them last minute so that the plane is empty.

She wouldn't likely ask or care how they made it happen, but she may be nicer to them afterwards as a result.

And I am certain that leaders have really great ways of rewarding staffers that they like.
"Why don't you come with me to Mandela's funeral to help out?"
"I need some help this weekend in Jasper, why don't you come."

It would actually explain the infamous $45k trip and her "I didn't know how much it cost" comment as well. She got the flight/time she wanted without having to concern herself with "minor" details like what it cost to fly a private jet.

Of course I'm just spitballing here, it's also possible she carried around a sack of $50 bills and made a habit of burning them for fun while booking fake passengers onto the government plane from her iPhone.

There is a joke here and unfortunately, it's on you, me and the rest of the Alberta residents. The only ones laughing are the PC's.

oh well, I'd rather be laughed at then have Alberta go even more right wing. That and the fact that WRA is basically just soundbite whores and have never put forth an actual plan ... I fail to see the joke.

Congratulations, you get exactly what you want. The PC's are laughing all the way to the bank at your expense.
Exactly what is is you're afraid the Wild Rose will do if in power? Because the last two PC lead governments were so dysfunctional and dishonest they ended with the last two leaders having to step down.

Where the only tenable political position is to go further to the right.

I think the problem with the PCs is they have gone from being Socially Moderate, Fiscally Conservative (which is what I think Progressive Conservative is supposed to mean), to Socially Conservative, Fiscally Liberal.

And now they only other option we seem to have right now is a fully conservative party.

I honestly don't think urban Alberta is a vary Socially Conservative place at all. So I hope both parties loss ground in the next election, so even if we stay PC they have to consider more socially moderate policies.

There is very little that is fiscally liberal that can be associated with the PC party of Alberta. I've become truly concerned that the extreme negligence shown to the provinces image and public service over the last decade (despite frequent promises otherwise) has created problems that are now essentially irreversible in our lifetimes.
