I wouldn't say it's completely normal, but it sure isn't unusual either. I wouldn't do it personally, but I know more than a few people who do. A lot of it can depend on the size of the dog of course.

I always thought a kennel was harsh though. A blanket in a special area of the house for your dog is a nice happy medium. My parents dog (and my first dog) slept in their bedroom on her own bedding.

In general, humans are cleaner (have less dirt and bacteria on them) than dogs. However, you are more likely to catch a disease from another human than from a dog - many of the germs that live on a dog can't live on a human and so can't infect you. You certainly can't say the same about other humans.
So... you are more likely to catch a disease from kissing or sleeping with your significant other, than letting a dog lick you or sleep in your bed.

My two dogs are allowed up on the bed. In the four years we have owned dogs neither my wife or I have caught some disease/germ/infection from the dogs.... the same cannot be said about my wife or myself.

My dog sleeps in my bed sometimes (most of the time) thanks to a softy girlfriend.

Sometimes I even *GASP* put my hands on him. I know, I know, it's crazy. But I appear to have not died yet.

I shower every morning after I work out. If I get sweaty/dirty during the day, then yes, I have another shower. I would never get into bed after running around outside with no shoes on. Particularly if I was running through my own urine and fecal matter.

I don't think it's unreasonable for Muslims to call dogs unclean. Because they are.

When we were kids, we used to trick the malay kids into reaching their hand into a box that has a puppy in it. Then, they would scream and run home to their family. Then, the Toyol shows up and curses us. The horrors of the Toyol, summoned by the most powerful Bomoh.

But isn't it unreasonable to revere cats and then call dogs unclean?

Thinly veiled brag that you work out every morning.

Also, LOL.

So dogs are offensive because they are unclean? That's calling the kettle black considering in my personal experience most dogs smell better than most ...

What's that you say? Some crazy religion has some crazy custom/tenant/ceremony/book/belief? You don't say....

In other news:
- Catholics believe they are actually eating the body and blood of some ancient Jewish dude during communion,
- Mormon's wear magic underwear,
- Scientologist believe the souls of long dead aliens that were blown up in volcanoes with h-bombs are stuck to you like dog turd on your shoe,
- Fundamental Baptists believe women should be subservient to men,
- YECs believe the Earth is only 6,000 - 10,000 years old,
- and most Christians believe that same ancient Jewish dude, who was really actually his own father yet born to a virgin, sacrificed himself... to himself... to pay for sins committed to rules he himself defined and yet allowed to be broken... all because of original sin which was eating a fruit from the "tree of knowledge" because Adam and Eve were tempted by a talking snake who somehow the magic sky fairy couldn't see or stop, and didn't bother to warn Adam and Eve about.

Religion, all religion, is filled with the ridiculous. A Muslim jihad against dogs isn't even in the top 10 of most moronic things religious people have said/done.

Sure it's definitely reasonable. It's also reasonable to call any animal, including people, unclean. And as such, makes the claim "dogs are unclean" to be true, yet meaningless.

I would have any dog I personally know sleep in my bed over a pretty good amount of people I see every day just walking on the street. And not just homeless people. Smokers, crazies, people who don't wash their hands (they're everywhere), certain people you could meet on any given night in a club, etc..

Do you go outside?

If?

Do you have magic skin and hair that doesn't shed every single day? Do you have magic skin that doesn't secrete things all day long? Since you're already being a hypocrite about yourself, why complain about a dog on your bed?

I actually feel a little bad for Sliver on this one. I don't think it's unreasonable to not want a dog in your bed. I'm fine with it, I just wouldn't do the sleeping thing cause I think part of training a dog well and making sure you don't have bigger problems later is boundaries. But I have known dog owners, who love their animals very much, who don't want them in their bed cause they feel it's unsanitary.

It may not be 100% logical, but it's not unreasonable to feel that way.
