Good, I was hoping Ferland would do this.

Ferland: Yes, I was acquitted!

Eyma: But you still beat me up - I demand satisfaction. Let's take this outside.

Ferland: Ok put em up...wait, what? Screw that, COUNTER-SUE!

Eyma: Damn, so close...but I almost gotcha, right?

Ferland: COUNTER-SUE! YAY!

Sorry I shouldn't make fun, but why not just leave it alone? Kinda miss the days when you could just settle things like human beings, outside of court, fight or no-fight.

I don't know, defamation of character is a pretty serious thing. When this whole mess was first reported I'm sure that lots of Flames fans' first reaction was negative towards Ferland. Lots of people likely painted him with the "spoiled rich brat/drunk bully" brush. Now that he's been cleared of any wrongdoing why not throw a counter punch at the guy who dragged his reputation through the mud? I'm sure it was a trying time for him, that went on for quite awhile. It obviously isn't something that Ferland is willing to just let pass by, like nothing happened, and frankly I don't blame him one bit.

That is some funky dialogue homeslice.

And you countersue because a total nob put you through a time consuming and stressful situation that could have jeopardized your career. Just leave it alone? nope, let this troll pay you every single penny...

So this is playing out as the legal version of the actual events that transpired. Ferland gets sucker-punched and then throws back a knockout blow.

Well done.

Serves him right I guess. This guy admitted he wasn't innocent in the situation, and by the sounds of it, initiated the physical confrontation when he first knocked Ferland in the side of the face, to which Ferland simply reacted, while being bigger and stronger than the guy.

Yet he decides to pursue charges after learning Ferland would be raking in big bucks as a pro hockey player. Definitely tried to milk the situation to land some cash, meanwhile putting all this bad press on Ferland when it boiled down to more or less a drunken bar fight that both parties took part in.

If I were Ferland, I'd just take the higher road and let it be.. as it's time to focus on your career. But he has every right to counter sue, and is probably more in the right to do so than the guy was in his attempted lawsuit.

If I were Ferland I would sue and donate all the winnings to charity.

Or pay his lawyer?

He isn't making NHL cash yet...and he may never.

Don't get me wrong Hurtin_Albertan and Major Major - I think Ferland is well-justified and completely within his legal right to counter claim.

I just feel that this will breed more hate and negativity because I think Ferland will win. If the guy was trying to milk the situation, chances are he's not rich. Counter-suing someone who will take probably upwards of 10+ years to pay you back $90,000 and most likely destroying his life in the process seems unnecessary. This is not to mention how Ferland will collect from the guy, which I imagine will be like pulling teeth. A constant reminder of a stupid night and an ugly, public mess to follow.

I agree with djsFlames - take the high road, focus on Hockey and make it your goal to be an NHL regular.

I think it could be just ammunition to make an out of court settlement. I'll drop my suit if you drop yours.

Whatever the case, let it die before training camp. Not point worrying about a legal battle when you have an NHL squad to make.

There's more to it than money that you need to take into account. Even if Ferland had no personal gain by Counter-suing its his responsibility to file this counter suit. An example will be made of this d-bag which will hopefully lead to less false claims against people just because they have money to pay out in court.

Not taking action would be the same as catching a burglar and deciding not to call the cops because you caught him. He's then free to move onto the next house and hope for a better outcome with no consequences.

Is there a way to counter-sue my last two gold diggers and get 2 houses back?

Hell, I would take one of them.

happy he goes after this guy.

happier if he wins or settles for some money.

happiest if he gives the winnings to charity.

Nothing will come of this. Just a standard thing to do if someone is suing you. And the dollar amount is meaningless.

I disagree with the bolded part. You still have to have a legitimate argument to counterclaim.
