Staios played both forward and D too IIRC.

Edit: Vandermeer too. Don't think it's as uncommon as it sounds and the list doesn't contain too many impressive players.

Jebus. The Nuge may want to get healthy scratched if Sieloff's playing. Those hits would tear that little guy in half.

That is exciting, the Flames haven't had a hard hitting D prospect since they had a few of them ~10-15 years ago. Hopefully Sieloff can make the Flames in a year or two and provide some much needed toughness to the back end.

At the moment I see Engelland being the 7th Dman next season with Wotherspoon regularly in the top 6. Sieloff, Kulak, and Cundari will fight over the first injury call up.

Also, regarding the conversation about defence playing forward, that is nothing special. Wing is the easiest position in hockey to play and any centre or defenceman with a bit of hockey sense can slot in on the wing with little issues if needed.

With Wotherspoon showing to be a pretty solid kid last year, out of camp I can see him making the team. Sieloff being a early to mid season call up who sticks.

Giordano, Brodie, Wideman, Wotherspoon, Smid, Sieloff and Russell is how I see our defence. I don't want to lose the mobility of Russell and the potential of Wotherspoon to play Engelland who I think Sieloff could be an upgrade to in pretty much every way.
I am as big of a Wotherspoon fan as anyone here and IMO he has maybe a 20% chance of making the team this year. He needs to play and Adirondack is where he can get 20+ minutes a night.

Sieloff didn't play hockey last year. He has less that a 1% chance of making the big club IMO.

The chance of Wotherspoon and Sieloff BOTH making it is as close to zero as you want to bother to get.

(this precludes a ton of injuries to starters in camp and them having to play as replacements, of course)

Agree mostly, but I think the Wotherspoon chance is quite a bit higher and Sieloff is closer to zero. Training camp is still that. He may make it out of Addy, but how do you start the season having never played in the NHL and only having a great 2 week camp against most non nhl competition? I don't see it. Wotherspoon fit in well last year, but there's still a decent chance he plays with the big club. My made up chance is about 60%

1. Sieloff won't make the team this year - he has a lot of catching up to do.
2. We are still looking to improve our blue line, meaning that Wotherspoon will most likely be in Adirondack on the top line.
3. Don't know why Russell is being considered to be traded, we just resigned him and was our #3 defenseman when Wideman was injured. He still put up 29 points in 68 games too, only 2 behind Brodie in 12 less games.

Our blue line will be:

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Wideman
Smid - Engelland
UFA

I think Treliving stated that he wanted to sign another defenseman, perhaps one as a reclamation project.
