Our family has a place down the street from him here in BC. Apparently he was hit and the driver didn't even stop. Total hit and run, the driver has yet to be found.

Prior to the accident he was out daily running, biking and what I can only speculate was preparing for another season. With the accident I can only assume he's unlikely to suit up with a team this fall. Who knows though, maybe he'll recover quickly and find a team to sign with.

Details about the accident: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...402/story.html

Sounds like he's lucky to be alive.

I wonder how much of him being a guy with above average fitness contributed to him being able to withstand being driven over and get away with a lot less injuries than you would expect.

I wonder why the RCMP are not charging the driver?

Probably the driver is claiming he was not at fault and saying that he did use his signal light . If it comes down to a situation where it's basically Sarich's word against the driver it's very hard to hold them accountable and prove they actually did it.

Once I was parked off the road playing with my phone while waiting for my wife and a guy drove by and clipped my car. He lied and said that I rolled out into traffic as he drove by and it became by word against his... I got nowhere. Fortunately he was moving pretty slowly so not much damage but man the frustration - that was as close as I came to egging someone's house since I was 14 years old and that was one of the nicer thoughts I had about that guy.

I actually get why many people are buying those dashboard cameras, I'm sure road cyclists will all have them in a few years.

Default Sounds like Cory Sarich was involved in an accident?

Sarich gets run over by a pickup truck... Stands up and says, let's do this.

Guy has always been a warrior, glad to hear he's recovering. I hope he never plays again, enjoy your life, you've earned it.

Ya for sure you're right, maybe it was at an intersection with yield signs where he could turn but didn't signal? I dunno, either way glad he bounced back, I'd probably be down for the count after that kind of impact.

The law is the last thing the driver needs to worry about... Sarich got up and asked "did anybody get the liscence plate of that truck?" and now he wants revenge

From what I've heard, Sarich was on the Windermere Loop Road and going down a big hill with the sun to his back. The old guy was blinded by the sun, didn't see him, made the turn into his farm and hit Sarich. The Jeep that assisted him was right behind the truck and barely avoided hitting him as well.

Not excusing the driver but providing a little more context to the story.

The driver should still be charged. I see this horse#### all the time. Hope he heals up and is able to lead a normal life.

So was it a Gorby that ran him over or a towny?

I get what you're saying but if he's able to get himself back into shape and still has the desire to play, why shouldn't he?

I think out of fear of what he'd do to our kids as he'd be on a different team...

I think Ryan smyth got run over by a car too at one point in his youth. Seems like if you play hockey, you have a chance! Glad Sarich is relatively ok given the horror scene described
