You get the first down and kill the half without conceding anything. Your other options are concede a safety or punt from the end zone and probably Calgary starts in field goal range. I can see why they'd try it, but it looks really bad when it fails.

The TSN panel explains the strategy, as it wasnt so much risk but more likely for the play for the esks

the Stamps called a time out to plan out receiving the ball and running it in and gain as much yards before the end of the half. Probability was on the Esks side to run a punt fake play as that's the last thing they'd be expecting.
