Israel's ambassador to the United States yesterday claimed that the IDF should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. His rationale: IDF soldiers are risking their lives in a dangerous ground offensive when they could have instead just carpet bombed Gaza back to the stone age.

The Israeli army should be given the Nobel Peace Prize for its “unimaginable restraint” in Gaza, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, said Tuesday.
[...]
“Israel did not have to send its soldiers into many of the places they are fighting today. We could have given people time to evacuate these areas — which we did anyway — and then bombed from the air all the buildings that were being used by fighters to store and fire weapons. But we didn’t. As we have done time after time, we are sending our soldiers into this hornet’s nest of Palestinian terror that is booby-trapped with mines and riddled with subterranean tunnels.”

Well except for firebombing churches, digging up Christian cemeteries, forcing Christians away from their homes and from Christian churches and sites (Holy Trinity Monastery) , lets not forget the desecration of various sites (Ramallah). The first Baptist Church in Bethlehem has been firebombed 14 times and its Pastor shot.
Yeah they treat Christians wonderfully. They are second class citizens under the PA and Hamas at best. Don't forget that converting to Christianity is a criminal offense.
I guess if we're going to talk about the deplorable treatment of Blacks in Israel (Which is terrible) then we should look at the equivalent in the West Bank and Gaza and their treatment of Christians which is equally terrible.

Do you have a source for that?
The mayors of Muslim majority cities Ramallah and Bethlehem as well as several other smaller towns are Christians. The former Palestinian representative to the US as well as the current ambassador to France are Christian. The latter is a woman as well. The captain of the Palestinian women's national soccer team is Christian. They're also guaranteed a certain number of seats in the Palestinian National Council.
All this and they make up less than 10% of the population.

Christians aren't exactly treated well in israel.
"Ultra-Orthodox young men curse and spit at Christian clergymen in the streets of Jerusalem's Old City as a matter of routine. In most cases the clergymen ignore the attacks, but sometimes they strike back."

To be fair, that article is talking about the "ultra-orthodox" and not your average Israeli. That's your fire and brimstone religious fundamentalist there.

They make up less then 10% because of the treatment of Christians have forced a lot of them to leave, There's been a rapid exodus of Christians from West Bank and Gaza

Oh give me a break.
I blame Hamas for all of this. They refused to accept a cease fire a week ago.
Everyone seems to forget how this started.
Now they demand an end to the blockade of Gaza. Why? So they can import more sophisticated weapons from Iran to attack innocent Israeli citizens.
Instead of building infrastructure they build tunnels to facilitate their terrorist objectives.

This is not a war about religion. You're showing ignorance once again. Both religions are quite similar.

If you don't think that religion is playing an absolutely colossal role in this conflict you have a very poor understanding of both the history of this area and the dogmatic preachings of the two major religions at play in this.

THIS war is not about religion. Not that the conflict isn't helped by religion. When you have a Jewish state, and a Muslim population on the other side then of course religion will play a factor but I don't doubt for a second that if both groups were atheists that this would still be an ongoing problem.
The U.S didn't drop a nuke on the Japanese because of their religion and Israel isn't dropping bombs on U.N shelters because of what religion they believe in, so yes it does play a role but it's not the main reason for the conflict.

The West Bank is rioting.
http://news.sky.com/story/1307077/tw...t-bank-protest
Started due to the bombing of the UN school, IDF shoots a couple protesters, (rioters, whatever) and general melee follows.
What a mess. How do you honestly fix this? John Kerry can go in there spitting bald eagles and crapping apple pie and its not gonna change a damn thing.

If these two groups were secular we wouldn't have any issues at all. There would be no urge from the Islamic folk to wipe out the Jewish state. There would be no concern over Jerusalem. There would have been no threats by terrorist groups, no fatwas decrying Israel no room for Iran to run a proxy. There would be no Orthodox Jews calling for settlements because of their disregard and care of a Muslim community.

That's because there was no 1,000 year old blood feud between the Christianity and Shinto.

It is very much so the main reason that this conflict is happening. The back and forth between the IDF and Hamas and the civies caught in between are just another branch on the tree sprung up from this ugly, ugly seed.
