Justin Blackmon and Josh Gordon could have been two of the most dynamic young WR playing in the NFL over the next decade, now we may be left wondering what they could have accomplished.
Quote:
@YahooSchwab 19m Have to guess Josh Gordon never plays for the Browns again, after his DWI. Question is, does he play for anyone again? Sad story, really.
|
Quote:
@CecilShortsIII 22m Instead of attacking Josh Gordon, pray for him! It's crazy to me how we judge people when we all are battling with our own faults and issues
|
Quote:
@dpbrugler 14m DWI another example of why the #Browns couldn't trade WR Josh Gordon. More than just lack of common sense, he doesn't care about changing
|
Quote:
@JayGlazer 14m Josh Gordon what are you thinking?!? Honestly hope he gets help bc he can't help himself
|
Quote:
@dpbrugler 12m A big issue with Gordon is the company he keeps. A lot of bad influences that hinder the chances of him changing. Its really a shame #Browns

Johnny Cokehead (because what else could he possibly be doing?)
Boy it must suck the absolute worst to be a Browns fan. Especially if Teddy Bridgewater turns into anything that resembles a starting QB (as Manziel appears destined to be out of the league in 2 seasons or less)

Details of divide between Andre Johnson & #Texans is posting on @NFL.com. He told them he wants to play for another team. Houston resisting
|
New England obviously makes a lot of sense but he's due $10 million this year so trading him might prove difficult.

Should make for an interesting read when the messages come out.
Quote:
The statements that Belichick and Kraft made to authorities – along with the interviews of director of football Berj Najarian, director of player personnel Nicholas Caserio and strength coaches Harold Nash Moses Cabrera – are referenced in documents filed in Fall River Superior Court. The filings, made public Monday, list the evidence prosecutors in the Odin Lloyd murder case have turned over to Hernandez's defense lawyers in advance of the trial.
Prosecutors also turned over 33 pages of text messages between Belichick and Hernandez from February 2013 to May 2013, the four months leading up to Lloyd's June 17 shooting.
The former Patriot tight end was released from the team after his arrest. He faces two more murder counts in a July 2012 drive-by shooting in Boston.

And that's exactly what the Saints did. 4 year extension for about 40 million.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200...r-40m-contract
Highest paid TE contract in league history, but he's not really a typical tight end. He is the Saints best offensive weapon for Drew Brees, and their passing game isn't as proficient without him.

Aldon Smith spent the afternoon in front of a judge on his weapons & DUI charges.
Quote:
Smith was then sentenced to 12 days in county jail with 1 day credit for the DUI charges, and 3 years of court probation. He was also sentenced to 12 days with 1 day credit for the weapons charge, but it will run concurrently with the DUI days. Additionally, he has to do 235 hours of community service. Finally, he was fined $2,000, and cannot possess guns or ammunition for the three years of his probation.
The 11 days in jail can be served on a weekly Monday work crew starting July 28. We'll look for more details on how exactly the work crew would work. Often first time DUI convictions result in picking up trash on the side of the yard, or other such work. We'll see if Aldon just serves the 12 days before the season starts, or if he spends 11 Mondays picking up garbage.

So now it is in the NFL's hands as to whether there will be any supplemental suspensions.

Tony Dungy comments on drafting of michael sam:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...n-michael-sam/
Quote:
“I wouldn’t have taken him,’’ Dungy told the Tampa Tribune. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it. It’s not going to be totally smooth . . . things will happen.’’
|
Now i realize coaches/GMs likely have had this type of discussion in private on whether bringing in this kind of media story and potential locker room topic into their team, but pretty sure this is no different than a few generations ago when GMs/coaches were contemplating letting african americans play pro sports, QB'ing in the big leagues, or hey dungy, even head coaching.
Of all the people to make such comments, i would have imagined that an african american would have had a little more thought in their analysis of the situation to realize doing something different/difficult today may be a good thing for all tomorrow.

The biggest issue with Dungy's comments was he told every NFL team to sign former dog murderer Mike Vick. Hard to take his comments seriously when he went to bat, staunchly too, for a guy who was a massive distraction at the time he wanted him to be signed. Dungy's a pretty religious guy so not surprised he would rather have a felon than a gay player.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen is "stepping down" due to Alzheimer's.
Sad day for Broncos fans. As a fan, you couldn't ask any more from an owner. The Broncos have been a competitive team most of the years he has been the owner. I sincerely hope the progression of the disease is such that he is able to enjoy this season.

Sidney Rice has retired at age 27 due to concussions. Brett Favre made him a lot of money.

Crappy. Further erosion of the Seahawks depth chart and makes it even more difficult to repeat. Good smarts of Rice to walk away while he's reasonably healthy. As you said, he cashed in plus he nabbed a ring.

Have to imagine he got told he probably wasn't getting a starting role out of camp.

No doubt. Truth is Rice never performed up to the huge ass contract the Seahawks gave him and with his ACL tear and rehab it was unlikely he was going to start this year unless there were other injuries in the receiver corps.

What a waste of talent, hopefully he can get his life together.
Quote:
Former Oklahoma State football player Justin Blackmon was arrested for the possession of marijuana Wednesday night in Edmond.
According to Edmond police, Blackmon was stopped for a traffic violation at Edmond Road and Kelley. Officers said they could smell an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.
After a search, police said they found marijuana and Blackmon was taken into custody.
Blackmon was also issued a citation for the traffic violation. Edmond police did not say how much marijuana was discovered in the vehicle.
In June, 2012, Blackmon was arrested in Stillwater for driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2010, he was also arrested for DUI in Texas.
In the 2012 NFL draft Blackmon was the Jacksonville Jaguars' fifth pick. Last October, the Jaguars suspended Blackmon for one year without pay for repeated violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Have to love the NFL justice system. Gordon gets 1 year for smoking pot, Rice gets 2 games for beating up his wife.

Kind of a microcosm of the entire U.S. justice system.

But the NFL will be more than willing to profit off that wife beater (and keep most of the profits and give very little to breast cancer research).

Probably just leveraging, but Al Davis was in San Antonio to have talks about relocating the Raiders to South Texas.
