Reports coming through that a UN school has been hit by Israeli airstrikes, killing at least 10. You would imagine this would be the moment when they lose most Western support.

IDF has been pretty open about most controversial strikes and their reasoning. I can't see this costing them any support they didn't already lose in prior strikes.

Hamas has had rockets in UN schools, so its not unfathomable that they're attacking another one

Does anyone remember when they leveled the UN watch tower killing a number of Canadian and UN Peace Keepers? IDF get away with this nonsense as follows: deny it happened, cast blame on victims, deny responsibility, wait for news to die down, rinse, and repeat.

European media is firmly on the side of Palestine right now, after this school airstrike you can bet even more so. This was a UN controlled refugee school so its hard to imagine any excuse Israel can make here.

15 killed, and over 200 injured in the UN school/shelter:

Laila Al-Shinbari, a woman who was at school when it was shelled, told Reuters families had gathered in the courtyard expecting to be evacuated shortly in a Red Cross convoy.
"All of us sat in one place when suddenly four shells landed on our heads ... Bodies were on the ground, (there was) blood and screams. My son is dead and all my relatives are wounded including my other kids," she wept.

Chris Gunness, spokesman for the main U.N. agency in Gaza UNRWA, confirmed the strike and criticised Israel:
"Precise co-ordinates of the UNRWA shelter in Beit Hanoun had been formally given to the Israeli army ... Over the course of the day UNRWA tried to coordinate with the Israeli Army a window for civilians to leave and it was never granted," Gunness said on his Twitter page

from the Guardian's live blog.

Well, if Israel's goal was to make them as morally indefensible as possible, then congratulations I suppose.

Absolutely repulsive. Hospitals, homes, schools. Hitting any of these is against the rules of war. They obtained a small amount of excusability with their questionable attempts at warning civilians, but not allowing 200+ people to escape a school before bombing innocent men, women, and children is completely unacceptable, and quite frankly, classify as an act of war if you want, but it's borderline terrorism in itself.

It almost seems like the IDF is getting lazy with the whole "Yeah... there was probably rockets in there... or something"

Bombing a residence or a hospital or a school should not be a normal thing.

Lobbing rockets at populated areas with absolutely no control of whether you hit a power substation or a playground should not be a normal thing.

Just comparing the body count makes me believe the rockets are a a weak excuse for this level of destruction. Two Israelis have been killed by rockets, vs 600+ Palestinians?

Just to point out the same thing could be said for the Hamas who are firing rockets into Isreal.,

(This is not mean at Hulk, but the idea is true for both sides)

From a previous article I posted:

When all civilians are potential human shields, when each and every civilian can become a hostage of the enemy, then all enemy civilians become killable.

I'm hating the civilian casualties,

However you can't punish Israel for having a system in place for protecting their citizens, Hamas is still attacking civilian targets.

So no to me its not a weak excuse.

I'm not happy with the conduct of the IDF in this conflict though.

It's complete nonsense. Just another in a long line of excuses by Israel to keep the blockade and their thumb firmly on the people of Gaza. Israel has bred this situation with their dishonest negotiations and settlement construction. Bibi even said himself, there is no way on earth they will ever cede military control of the occupied territories. I find it ridiculous people chastise the Palestinians for fighting back against a system that gives them no hope or chance at a better life.

No one is defending Hamas, they're clearly in the wrong as well. They are a terrorist organization. Israel is not, and should be holding itself to a higher standard IMO. It's very difficult to defend what they're doing right now when you look at the staggering differences in casualties: 33 Israelis (including those on the ground in Gaza) and 750+ Palestinians, a large number of those children & innocent people. I don't understand how anyone thinks that that number of civilian casualties is in the least way acceptable.

Go back a couple of steps. Israel has killed 750 people because three teens were kidnapped and killed. Israel felt the right to go and arrest and displace 2000 people for that crime and then to start a war against an organization for which there's very good evidence to support had nothing to do with the crime.

Lets be clear as to why Hamas is launching rockets, it was because of a massive escalation of Israeli violence.

Did the Israelis bulldoze the houses of the settlers that kidnapped and set fire to the Palestinian kid? Funny how the first thing they do in the occupied territories is lay waste to the little property people there have.

The local police arrested the Israeli murderers (2 out of 3 were children themselves) and charged them with murder and hate crimes.

The Palestinians government funded and hid the murderers of the Israeli teens. When Hamas and the Palestinian authority start arresting their own murderers Israel won't need to remove the economic incentive to murder.

There's been two entirely distinct reactions to murder. The Israeli reaction was not the incorrect one.

According to you Israel has no recourse to stop Hamas from getting weapons?

Also you realize that Egypt maintains the exact same blockade. Hamas is dangerous. End of story. They aren't some minor terrorist organization either. They are the elected government of the Palestinians.
