I passed first try. Passed the written test on the second try when I was 14. Last year I drove my friend to do the written test 12 times. 21 years old

I need to go do my second test to get the GDL off my license for work. $140+ bucks to do the hour long road test, huge money grab

Speaking of, I really wish there was a time limit on how long you could drive with your GDL.

I assme most people on this board never even needed to do the second road test to lose their GDL

You need to have the GDL for 2 years before you can do the advanced road test

edit: I agree with you, I don't think it should be $140+ though

Failed the written test once and passed the basic road test on my first try (age 19). In the next couple weeks I plan on taking the advanced road test to get off my GDL, would anyone be willing to offer up some tips on what I need to know for that one?

Zero. I grew up in Airdrie though, getting my drivers licence to venture out of Airdrie was absolutely necessary.

Just drive normally and don't speed and don't stop or follow to close.

Mine only took 20 minutes. FYI, if you're doing it in a stick, I think missing a gear is an automatic fail and I got docked for putting it in neutral at a light.

(This was 4 years ago... God I'm old.)

No wonder there are so many horrible drivers out there. Wouldn't the trick be to have a better instructor?

I failed my first test 1/2 a block from the end point, when I turned left at an intersection too aggressively for the examiner's taste, and received an automatic fail. I passed the second time.

I passed the first try, but probably should have failed. I think the instructor took pity on me because we had a huge dump of snow that morning, which was the first snowfall of the year and the first time I'd driven in snow. Lots of my friends had to take the road test multiple times.

Yeah, there was a giant dump of snow on the eve of my 16th birthday, and my test was scheduled for the next morning. I had my Chevette all shined up and ready to rock, but I couldn't even move it off my driveway the snow was so deep. My dad had a truck with a snowplow on it, which he picked me up in and I did my test in that vehicle including the parallel park with a plow assembly on the front. Passed first try and it was the greatest feeling ever.

OP - you'll get that feeling soon enough and it doesn't matter that you didn't get it the first crack. You'll get it next time, or maybe even the time after that. You don't have too much longer to wait in the big scheme of things so hang in there.

1: The instructor failed me because I had "passed someone in a school zone." This was a car making a left turn, meanwhile I was in the other lane just going my merry way... And yes still sour grapes about that.

I passed the first time with minor deductions. There's nothing the matter with failing, sometimes you learn more lessons from failing something then passing it with ease.

I passed first time with 9 out of a max 10 deductions at age 16. Flubbed up the first parallel park (2 points off + 2 for the retry) and lost another 5 making a left turn just before completing the test. It was a strange T intersection that was like a 135 degree turn and I cut the turn a little close to the line.

I "yippee"d right out of the SGI office and never looked back!

Failed my first try. Got into a spat with the instructor when he said pull up to the red truck and parallel park. So I pulled up to the red truck which had very little room and attempted to park. After I failed miserably, just no room, the instructor said no that red truck and points to a silver truck with a red stripe. I lost it, was so flustered I couldn't park again and I didn't slow for an uncontrolled intersection so I failed.

I was pretty mad back at the office about the whole thing so they let me take it again right away with a different instructor. Passed no problem. I even parked behind the "red" truck.

Heard on the radio this morning that a women in the UK has failed over 100 times? Also cost 50 pounds or so a pop...

I failed my first time. I disagreed on the reason but that doesn't matter much. I went through an uncontrolled intersection and there was a car off in the distance to my right when I went through. The examiner said that it was a "potential accident situation" and I should have yielded to my right, even though we were pulled over and talking about it before the car actually went past.

Don't get down on yourself, I know LOTS of people who failed their first time, for a lot of reasons. You'll pass the second time.

Doing a paralell park with a horse and buggy is not as easy as you might think
