to a certain extent I agree. I hate listening to them. There's quite a difference in noise between a contractor style though and a quality inverter style. Most parks have generator hours but I do wish they had max db ratings as well.
Having said that, I do carry one with me for emergency charging of the batteries or to run the a/c for the dog. He's a pug and it can be life threatening for him in the heat.

That's a rather strong statement.
Do you feel this way about children playing, dogs barking, people
Talking and music playing? I only ask because all those are just as if not louder then most generators.
If you want zero noise camping your not going to find it, noise pollution comes in many different forms. You are most definitely entitled to your opinion but could you expand on if you also hate everything and everyone else while camping?

I'd rather listen to a generator than someone else's music or dogs barking

I'm not quite where Ducay is with his generator hate, but I do find them pretty annoying. I accept them as a fact of camping and I realize not everybody's desired experience when they camp is the same as mine. During one of our earlier trips this year our neighbour had his running every night until 11, and it essentially sounded like he was mowing the lawn next to us. No huge deal... it was our first time at that campground and we know not to return.
Personally I'm quite excited for my kids to get a bit older so we can camp in walk-in sites that trailers can't get to.

We didn't get an electrical site when we booked, they were all sold out. So I should just not have electricity for the week to appease you, who's been offended by someone, at some point? Good chance I'll be parked next to some tenters who very well could be up all night at the fire boozing, listening to music, having a good time at a substantailly louder decible level than my generator that I might use for an hour in the middle of the day.
Stop being so judgemental and assuming everyone is the worst of what you've experienced.

Prehaps scum is a bit strong of a word, but I still hate those who use generators. You're announcing to the world you're a selfish jackwad with no respect for those around you.
I'm sorry you couldn't book an electrical site, so now you get to ruin the experience of all those sites around you because you somehow need A/C.
10 years ago you'd never see a generator, now everyone suddenly HAS to have them.
Im all for technological advancements, but not when the activity involved (camping) is about being in nature, not listening to someone run an engine for umpteen hours a day. Sounds peaceful.

I agree if the genny is being used all hours of the day. However everyone I know only uses theirs for a couple hours over the noon/afternoon hours to charge batteries so they can be quiet in the evening.

Who said anything about AC?
I've actually got to work because I have my own business and am going to be gone for a week each time. Maybe those having fires and ruining the landscape and playing their music and drinking all night are ruining it for me?
Umpteen? Maybe 60 minutes a day if that.
Please don't tell me what "camping" is meant to be about. It's to each their own. Where I'm going is beside a lake where there will be boats and kids and screaming, and god knows what else. That's a whole lot more offensive than a light buzzing noise for a few minutes.
Also I bought the trailer because I like to travel a lot and anticipate it cutting down on hotel costs. Nature.... kind of, more like trailer and RV sites within the vicinity of locations I'd be booking hotels or renting cabins.
The next trip I'll use it the generator will be quite secluded. It'll be interesting and I'll see what the area is like before "ruining" everyone's time with my generator. If it's that offensive I can always throw the batteries in the truck and charge them elsewhere. I'm pretty sure the crashing noise of the ocean will drown out the sound of the generator, but we'll see. And like a good neighbor I'll check with those camping adjacent to me if there's any issue. I'm going to assume they're nice people and will be out there to have a good time not be judgmental. Because that's generally the attitude I take in most things, although I have a tendency to be naive. . .
You're too opinionated and broad brushing everyone for this conversation to continue on this topic. Although maybe everyone who reads this will be a little more cautious regarding generator use and consider the reasonable people around them.

Not every generator user is as considerate as you say you're going to be. Every encounter I've had is with people leaving them on for hours at a time.
Sure there are other noises from kids, wind, etc, but I'm talking about noise pollution (and yes, I agree, the loud music folks are even worse).
If my angry hate encourages just one person to cut down/off their generator use, I've done my job. BC and AB campgrounds are regulating their use more and more every year, and hopefully, will be down to next to nil allowed in the coming future.

Does anyone have any experience with purchasing a used travel trailer?
I have been to a few dealers now and have seen some interesting things on kijiji. Can anyone recommend which is the better path to take? Are dealers over priced? Brands to avoid? All info is good info to me at this point.
I'm looking for something under 15k with jack/Jill bunks and a queen. This will be my first travel trailer and I'm intrigued to see how much we will actually use the thing.
Needless to say if anyone has anything let me know!
Thanks in advance

I bought ours in the US. We found a model we liked, the Keystone Outback and did some looking. I found if you wanted brand new, it still cheaper to shop in the US than Calgary. To buy the model we wanted, it would have been $4k cheaper to purchase in Michigan, and get it shipped to Coutts...that's including the exchange and shipping. I ended up finding a 2 year old model at a dealer in Whyoming and saved almost $10k compared to new here, but I had to drive to Wyoming to pick it up. I had a biking weekend in Helena planned anyways, so we just tacked this on. The border was painless.

Electronic noise is the worst.
You are camping don't bring music. If you really need you Ipad turn off the sound. No one needs to here you passed level 172 on candy crush.
Generators are next in line but most people I have found limit there use but they really annoy me.
Kids, dogs, fires, and late night conversaions are just part of the expectation of camping. I am a big fan of generator only being allowed between 10-2 when most people are not in their camp site.

Considering Demand far outweighs Supply, evident by the completely booked sites months in advance, I'd say good riddance to generators all together! Save the generator's and their noise for the highway side RV campgrounds.

Ducay, I think you are too angry to camp. I think you are better off staying in town and find yourself a lady friend, or boy friend,"Not that there's anything wrong with that", to release your stress if you know what I mean.

Problem is the highway side campgrounds you speak of arent the ones that need generators.

One piece of advice I will give you is STAY AWAY FROM RANGELAND RV! Their trailers are priced well but the headaches you will encounter dealing with them is not worth it. They actually lost my trailer for a while. I bought a used 5er this year that I found on KIJIJI. Super Happy with it.

There is no reason to run a generator in a campground unless its raining/snowing. How much time are you really spending inside your rv?. You can warm up a baby bottle in a pot of boiling water just like back in the day. If you kids need tv or x box that badly and you do not kick them into the outdoors to explore and have fun you might as well stay home and have a fire in your backyard. If your batteries cannot hold a charge for more than 12 hours without being completely dead go out and buy new ones or take them off and charge them properly! If you run a construction generator/princess auto special try not to be a complete knob and run it into the bush with an extension cord so not everybody around has to know your a welfare warrior cheapa$$.

Hey guys thanks to all that weighed in and helped me out. I moved a little bit quicker than I anticipated as something came up on kijiji today that met my eye. It was a trailer in great shape and the person selling was very helpful. He was very honest and up front making the "deal" so much easier.
Got a nice little 2009 Jayco 23 ft that has the tent trailer style bed pull outs and a nice slide. Came in a couple grand under budget as well which is great.
The seller is meeting up with me tomorrow to do a more thorough walk through and even negotiated a storage spot for me for the winter. Tip of the hat to him for taking the time to help out a guy who's new to it all.

Well thats a pretty around the bush way of calling me gay. If you're gonna do it, just do it, take the infraction head on and man up.

Now that you put it that way, the "generator" people are indeed terrorising my peace and thus are terrorists.
