He had a bad stretch after the world juniors. He was on an insane pace prior to the World Jrs.

Gillies did have a bit of a leveling off in his development but I think that had a lot to do with his shoulder injury he played through in the WJC. I think he is ahead of where Ortio was at the same age which is why he gets my vote.

I didn't say he had a bad season. I said he hit a low in his personal development. An off WJC, not bad or terrible, just....off. A low is still a low no matter how small it is. Its nothing against him at all. He still needs to rebound this coming season though. Again my vote rests on Ortio this year and can subsequently change in next year's poll. Although I suspect Ortio won't be on the list.

Love my big goalies. Can't ignore Gillies size and athleticism. I think he's got the higher ceiling. His supposed "off" year wasn't really that off although the WJC was disappointing. He's got plenty of time to round out his game. At the same age Ortio was a complete bust in North America by comparison.

The WJHC showed a lot of holes in his game that top level talent can take advantage of and that he may get away with when playing against Providence.
His lost the net a lot with quick puck movement, seemed to leave the top part of the net open a lot which the better shooters took advantage of and looked a little slow.
His college season wasn't bad but it wasn't a big step up (if a step up at all) from last year either.

Gillies. Had a small bump but recovered quickly. Still has starter potential. Ortio looked like a backup. Played too deep in the net and had really weak angles.

Gillies. I think he has a much higher ceiling.

Interesting to see Gillies up 8 ... this may make the run off legit and worthwhile, as Ortio had the nod in the broader vote.

Like I said it wasn't directed at you, I was just referring to those that say he had a poor season (other forum boards). I agree he had a blip in his WJC and a few subsequent games, but I thought he rebounded quite well. His low is more statistical not developmental since I think this was a perfect opportunity for him to develop. The experience of a slump is what tests players mettle and I think this will help Gillies grow.
Much like how it did for Ortio when he first came over and now is just a Kipper... Too soon? and Ortio deserves your vote I'm torn between the two myself and feel they will make a great tandem team for us.

Do the Ortio supporters not do Tuesdays or is Gillies getting all the Jankowski votes?

Must just be a lot of Providence fans either way. I wonder where Gilmour ranks for them.

LOL.
Muta and OzyFlame voted Ortio in Rd 9, with Ortio winning. Now both have voted Gillies in the Ortio vs Gillies Run Off.
How very hipster

Well it is possible to make your vote then have your mind changed by the comments of later voters.
I'm currently rethinking my ranking of Sieloff

It is kind of anti-hipster if they are jumping on the bandwagon after the rest did.
The hipster guy would have been voting for Gillies since round 1.
