^^Well, that could explain why he couldn't do any pull-ups. I could see the Oilers brass being none the wiser!

Oh my god can we just turn this into a Jankowski thread already. The pull up thing was getting old before we even drafted him ffs

I am a girl, and I couldn't do a pull up at my first national team camp. I was the only one. It was embarrassing but guess what, you grow and learn. After about 4 months of training I could do a couple and then could do more.
Who gives a crap. It means nothing in how good of a hockey player he is and how many he can do when he is physically mature.
Is anyone seriously worried about it? He will be just fine.

I know it grates on many, but if by the miniscule chance it got him to fall to us, I'm quite ok with pull-up gate.
I'll admit I did prefer Leon pre-draft and thought Bennett would be another Brule, but I believe management will hold him back long enough for him to thicken up a bit more and mature as well. I do like the different styles between him and Monahan, in that Bennett is the in-your-face aggressor, while Monahan picks his spots a bit more and finds open ice.
In retrospect, it is great to have someone who can play 1 or 2 center and complement Monahan's game so well. I never thought of it like I do now. When you think of it, that could become quite a scary 1-2 punch up the middle, never mind throwing a Gaudreau/Poirier/Granlund/Klimchuk/Baertschi/Ferland on the wings..

So when we get 1st overall next draft, what are we going to do with McDavid? I mean we have centres coming out our yin yang and lots of wingers as well. We could trade down and pick the defenceman. Of course that would make for a lot of threads for years to come.
Pardon me, its July and there really isn't much to talk about.

If we are soooo fortunate bennet can also play left wing. He plays both positions.

On LW we have Glencross, Raymond, Gaudreau, Bollig, and knocking on the door we have Granlund, Reinhart, Baertschi, etc. I'd guess we'd need to make some trades, either the draft or some players later. Forget it we just need to start trading some of our players to make room. We're going to be very young though.

5:30 can explain how having McDavid and Bennett likely would work out. But why you guys are even arguing about McDavid when Bennett hasn't even played a game yet is beyond me.
However, another nice tidbit is if you watch the whole thing, you'll hear a lot more than just Bennett as a familiar name.

It's good to be excited about the possibility about having a player like McDavid or Eichel in the lineup (and would pick them easily given the opportunity), but I don't think we should assume or expect we'll be picking 1st overall next year. Treliving said it himself that finishing 4th worst in the league is a concern - and even if he doesn't mean that, I would be concerned if there wasn't some form of improvement this season.
Personally I'm not as hung up about getting a high pick (top 4/5) this upcoming season as I was last season, and am perfectly satisfied with letting the chips fall into place. I feel like defense is our biggest need anyway with the center depth we have, and that there will some pretty good defensemen in the 6-10 range. I don't think I'll be as concerned about where the Flames finish this season as I am just looking forward to watching games this season.
Any pick in the top 10 would be fine with me - but it's nice knowing there won't be stress over focusing on how close we are to the bottom this time.

Yeah that's where I first saw and was impressed with Klimchuk.

I think the management is saying the right things, but if they really wanted immediate improvement in the standings, they would have gone out and invested in improved the roster that finished 4th from the bottom in the league.
Looks to me that any kind of improvement they are expecting, is more an in-house organic growth of the young players, which barring any monumental changes (ie. monahan doubles his point totals this season) is going to result in limited improvement in the standings.
I think it is a smart move. Getting one of the top 2 next season could result in a the flames being a playoff contender for a decade given the strong prospect pool of assets available to build with.

Gaskal gettin' all the recognition because of the Page Break
That's the exact thing I think is GIF worthy, if I was any kind of digital genius I'd do it myself.

It's a little more difficult 'wanting immediate improvement' and making it happen. I'm sure Treliving could trade all our top prospects for veterans or offer guys like niskanen and vanek 8.5m×7 deals (or whatever would convince them to sign here) but beyond that, what could they do realistically? We don't have a lot of trade assets other than prospects and draft picks. We're pretty much at the point where we have to take our medicine. Thank god our current management recognizes this and hopefully there won't be any more half measures or shortcuts taken in a vain attempt to win before we're ready.

93 is an acceptable rookie number. The question is whether Burke will let him keep it after he makes the team permanently.
Weird that they're wearing the old Edge socks that the Flames ditched after one season.

Our jersey is a monstrosity compared to the others in that photo (even the Oilers). I wish we went back to the retros permanently.

Our normal, 1st, home jersey? I think it's great. The central theme stays consistent. The red is a lot nicer than the dull shades on Detroit, Florida and Phoenix's pukey maroon.
